Himmel is actually an unusual role for Nobuhiko Okamoto.
In Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Sousou no Frieren), Himmel plays a very unique role. Initially, he was one of Frieren’s party members, and he was secretly in love with her. He passed away before the start of the series, yet he continues to influence the story by his past actions.
The curious part is that both his young and old self were voiced by the same person, Nobuhiko Okamoto. This just proves how talented he is as a voice actor — and these 10 roles will further confirm it.
At first, it seems that Bakugo couldn’t be more different from Himmel. One of the major characters of My Hero Academia (Boku no Hero Academia), Katsuki Bakugo is a hotheaded and impulsive teenager who starts screaming the moment something inconveniences him.
Well, he is voiced by Okamoto as well, and this kind of role is actually more popular for him. It’s not like we’re against that, though: he is really good at screaming.
Accelerator (A Certain Magical Index)
This is the reason why Okamoto gets typecast into unstable characters who scream a lot. With his performance as Accelerator in the Toaru series — initially in A Certain Magical Index (Toaru Majutsu no Index) — he quickly established himself as arguably the best voice actor to play these roles.
You thought Bakugo screamed a lot? Accelerator takes that to a completely another level. He’s an incredibly overpowered — and absolutely insane — antagonist who is prone to maniacal laughter. Don’t worry, though: he gets better.
Haikyuu’s Yuu Nishinoya is a more realistic take on this archetype. He is also impulsive and brash, but in a more grounded setting of high school volleyball.
He’s extremely fun to watch, and his antics make him one of the fan-favorite characters. It’s not like he’s always like this, though: during the games, he can be serious and calm when he needs to be.
Karma Akabane is one of the delinquents of Class E in Assassination Classroom (Ansatsu Kyoushitsu). A lazy genius, he takes more pleasure in provoking and taunting others than in actually studying.
He’s not a bad person — many times, he proves that he cares about others (though he often likes to hide that).
Rin Okumura is one of the two protagonists of Blue Exorcist (Ao no Exorcist). He’s pretty much the opposite of his brother, Yukio: while Yukio is calm and polite, Rin loses his temper very often… though the anime mostly makes that aspect of him into a comedy.
Perhaps Okamoto being cast in this role is another example of him being picked purely because of his ability to scream really well. Does it matter, though? The end result is awesome either way.
Niizuma (Bakuman)
In Bakuman., Eiji Niizuma is an extremely odd character. A young genius mangaka who works in very unconventional conditions, he is very self-centered (but passionate about his work).
His screaming is more of a result of his somewhat crazy act than of his temper issues: he makes a lot of weird noises when he draws manga. Fans wonder how Okamoto felt when he was voicing this character, as it’s a unique experience for sure.
Usui (Maid Sama!)
Takumi Usui is probably one of the most famous male leads in shoujo romance. He’s the most popular guy in school and seems to be excellent at everything. Underneath his cool and stoic exterior, however, he’s quite childish, immature and prone to jealousy.
That said, that’s at the start of the series — he grows as a person a lot along the series. This is one of Okamoto’s earlier lead roles, and one that some fans remember him the most for.
Genya Shinazugawa is perhaps one of the characters who evolved the most over the run of Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba).
He started out as a rude, unsociable and hotheaded warrior who wants to fight demons more than anything — your classic Okamoto role. That said, he does mellow down and grow as a person the further the anime goes.
In the second season of Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- (Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu), we get introduced to Frederica Baumann — another maid from Roswaal’s mansion. She has a half-brother, Garfiel — who is initially, let’s say, not very fond of Subaru.
Garfiel doesn’t trust those who live outside the Sanctuary, and easily loses his temper. Nobuhiko Okamoto, as usual, plays this trigger-happy character — except this one actually gets to brutally maul the protagonist. It wouldn’t be Re:Zero if Subaru didn’t die a bunch of times.
Khun (Tower of God)
Aguero Agnes Khun is one of Baam’s best friends. Curiously enough, in Tower of God (Kami no Tou), Nobuhiko Okamoto plays pretty much the opposite of his usual character: Khun is calm, collected and cunning.
His motivation for entering the Tower was gaining power and authority — he’s the kind of rich genius character that is always fun to watch. That said, he’s not absolutely emotionless — his friendship with Baam is real.
