Frieren Fans Want Their Anime Back Already — It Ended Way Too Quickly

Frieren Fans Want Their Anime Back Already — It Ended Way Too Quickly

These 6 months passed in a blink of an eye.

Summary:

  • Frieren is over, and fans already miss it.
  • There isn’t really an anime like it right now.
  • You can just go read the manga.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End (Sousou no Frieren) has been one of the most popular anime in the past few months. Over the course of its entire airing time (Fall 2023 and Winter 2024 seasons), it’s been heavily discussed in the community.

Every week, fans have been looking forward to the new episode — so much that the day it aired on was dubbed “Frieren Friday.” However, the anime has ended, and Frieren Fridays are no more. While fans knew it would come to an end eventually, they are still very sad.

Fans Can’t Find an Anime That Will Replace Frieren Fridays

There’s just nothing that hits the same way as Frieren in the Spring 2024 season. There’s no single anime to look forward to every week, and, while there are tons of good series, there’s not a single one that does the same thing.

We don’t really have a new fantasy-themed travel adventure anime this season. The closest to that is the Spice and Wolf (Ookami to Koushinryou) remake, but that isn’t exactly new — and so far, it doesn’t have the melancholic vibe of early Frieren episodes (and it won’t have the action of the later arcs).

Yes, fans were happy about the anime being incredibly well-made — and they would rather have no sequel at all than have a poorly-made one. Still, these 6 months passed very soon, and without Frieren, there’s one less excellent anime to look forward to every week.

As such, Frieren fans try to watch something else as good as it, but it proves to be a hard task. The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto) is another recent well-received anime with a female protagonist, but it, too, is already over.

There just aren’t many anime that do the same things as Frieren and are good at all of them. There are series that focus on the melancholic vibes of an adventure, with the protagonist slowly learning to interact with others.

There are also anime that play into the classic fantasy tropes — but there aren’t many that are good at doing both of these things.

Frieren isn’t unique because of its setting or something like that. It is unique because it’s good at doing many things and appealing to all kinds of audiences — it makes sense that fans miss it already.

Of course, if you can’t wait for more of it, you should just read the manga — there’s more than enough content unadapted.
