Guideau and Ashaf Are What Makes The Witch and the Beast So Good

Guideau and Ashaf Are What Makes The Witch and the Beast So Good

New terrific duo!

Summary:

  • Guideau and Ashaf are the main protagonists of The Witch and the Beast.
  • Their duo is based on their opposition, and this is why it works so well.
  • Possible future developments of their relationship are interesting to explore.

The Witch and the Beast (Majo to Yajuu) has just started airing recently, but it’s looking very promising already. The series has a lot to thank for, such as its peculiar setting, old school anime Victorian vibe, and the mystery of witches. But the heart of the series is definitely its two main protagonists, Guideau and Ashaf.

Two opposites

We have to be honest, Guideau and Ashaf’s relationship vibe is rather usual and even common for anime. A calm and sensible person who’s paired with an eccentric and impatient one? We’ve seen that plenty of times before, and The Witch and the Beast is not even the first anime to do it this season.

Still, there’s a simple reason for this dynamic being in all types of series: it works. And it does work in The Witch and the Beast, too.

Guideau absolutely hates witches, Episode 2 tries to emphasize this as much as possible. She’s bloodthirsty, impatient and is ready to fight any witch on her way.

Ashaf is calm, reasonable and gives the vibe of a person who’s had a lot of experience and knows how things work. He’s incredibly strong and powerful, too, which is why he’s the only one capable of keeping Guideau under control. Well, almost capable.

In a weird and twisted way their relationship resembles that of a parent and a child. Guideau doesn’t understand patience, limits, control and even manners, and Ashaf is trying to teach her these things.

He tricks her into believing they’ll be working on a witch-related case to make her understand that all cases are important, and they have to work together as a team.

Future developments

Although their relationship is rather tense right now, and Guideau got so angry that she promised to kill Ashaf as soon as her curse is broken, we have great hope for the development of their relationship in the future.

Right now they don’t really enjoy working with each other, but they have to do so, so they’ll be spending a lot of time together. We don’t know when they will find the witch that cursed Guideau and whether they will do it at all, but we’re sure that there’s a long adventure ahead.

This means Guideau and Ashaf will have to learn how to work together in the most efficient way. Moreover, we’re confident that bonding and caring are coming. And we can’t wait to see this development.
