Has Undead Unluck’s Anime Pacing Gotten Worse?

Has Undead Unluck’s Anime Pacing Gotten Worse?

It’s still great, don’t worry.

Summary:

  • Undead Unluck is a wonderful adaptation of the manga.
  • Still, fans have noticed some pacing issues in the anime.
  • Flashbacks are especially annoying for the audience.

The Undead Unluck anime adaptation has been receiving praise from manga readers since the very first episode. They call it a faithful adaptation and really enjoy the work David Production has been doing with the series.

There are 13 episodes of the anime for now, and while the series is on a brief hiatus between its cours, we’d like to talk about its pacing and discuss some manga readers’ comments.

It’s important to emphasize once again that the anime IS a great adaptation, but still, fans have noticed a small quality decline in recent episodes. And one issue is connected to the series getting dragged out.

Pacing has become significantly slower

A number of fans think that the anime is going too slowly. Although adapting 2 chapters per episode is quite common, and 26 chapters did in fact take 13 episodes to adapt, readers still think that the pacing could be faster.

The manga just feels more dynamic, all the events escalate quickly and the pacing is one of the things fans love so much about it. That’s why they think the anime has a couple of unnecessary flashbacks and fillers that just drag out the episodes.

The Spoil fight alone took three episodes when it was less than five chapters in the manga, and while battle sequences are always nice to watch in a well-made anime (and Undead Unluck is definitely a well-made one), readers think it should have been much faster.

It was better at the beginning

Fans agree that the first episodes were incredible in terms of pacing, everything was just as exciting as in the manga. However, it keeps getting a bit worse with each episode, and they’re worried about the future of the series.

Their worries can also be explained by the fact that they can’t be sure the anime will get a sequel. If Season 2 never happens, fans want Season 1 to cover as many events as possible, and if the pacing keeps getting slower, the chances of that will be low.

Flashbacks seem to be the main villain of the pacing issue for the viewers. Undead Unluck keeps reminding us of what happened mere episodes earlier, and this is starting to get on fans’ nerves.

Sometimes the series includes a flashback of what happened just an episode ago, and this is frustrating. Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten everything during a week break, we can handle it.
