The more we see of her, the more we fall for her.
Summary:

- Her personality is explored gradually.
- Holo has many personality traits, and they work well together.
The Spice and Wolf (Ookami to Koushinryou) series is incredible for so many reasons. It’s set in a beautiful world, it explains economics in a way that even complete dummies can understand, and it features just the right amount of romance. But the heart of the series is its characters, especially Holo.
Lawrence stans, please don’t get offended, he is also the star of the show and we love him greatly. Spice and Wolf would’ve never been this amazing without him. But there’s just something about Holo that makes her one of the best female characters in anime history, and we’d like to talk about that ‘something’.
Many Things Combined in a Single Character
It’s the most wonderful time to be a Spice and Wolf newbie, as the remake of the series is currently airing. New fans don’t know much about Holo yet, but even the four episodes of the remake that have been released can help you understand how extraordinary this character is.
The first couple of episodes give us a tiny glimpse of who Holo really is. She’s not just a cute wolf girl or a hot anime icon. The beginning of the series hints at her immense powers as a wolf deity, and even though we haven’t seen her in action yet, we’re prone to believe that she’s very strong indeed.
It seems like Holo can do it all and be everything at once. She is playful and really enjoys toying with Lawrence and making him flustered. She’s cunning and clever, as Episode 3 showed us with the entire pelt-selling situation.
She’s brave and ready to sacrifice herself when necessary. She can be serious when the need arises and fun to be around when there is no danger on the horizon.
Holo Is Also Vulnerable
Episode 4 shows us another very important side of Holo: her vulnerability. All the previous episodes made her look like a person who’s rarely bothered by anything, but that’s not true.
Holo shares her personal feelings with Lawrence, telling him that she’s been alone most of her life. Holo has lived for hundreds of years, and finding someone to stick around for that long is quite challenging. That’s why she doesn’t want to lose another friend again and let Lawrence go.
This conversation between Holo and Lawrence wasn’t just important for their relationship development (although we have to admit, it made our hearts beat faster), it was also crucial for understanding what type of person Holo really is.
Holo has so many wonderful traits, and they manage to work together exceptionally well, they don’t make her personality inconsistent. On the contrary, all these little glimpses of her help us realize how remarkable she is.
