Another week, another incredible episode of Delicious in Dungeon (Dungeon Meshi). Episode 4 has just aired, and fans are already eager to continue praising the series for its wonderful writing and worldbuilding. And we’d love to join in!
There are hundreds of fantasy anime out there, and Dungeon Meshi is not even the first one this season, but it does stand out in so many ways.
Of course, it’s a comedy series, but we’ve mentioned the hilarious humor in Dungeon Meshi so many times that we don’t think it needs to be mentioned again.
But humor is not the only thing that makes Dungeon Meshi different. Its monsters and worldbuilding are on another level. What surprised fans this time is how educational and creative the series can be while using the aforementioned monsters and worldbuilding.
Two new species of monsters were introduced in Episode 3, and they are Golems and Orcs, and both give us something to discuss.
The anime is educational
Apart from all the wonderful recipes that you can get from the series, it can also teach you about the rules of cooking and even gardening! We know it sounds unserious to learn these things from a comedic anime, but hear us out.
You wouldn’t expect Golems made of earth to be the best soil for growing vegetables, but we’re all wrong because that is exactly what they are. On top of that, Senshi goes into a long explanation of how to properly grow said vegetables, giving you a Botanics 101.
But that’s not all, Senshi also explains how fertilization works, which leads to him revealing that he is the one cleaning the toilets and taking care of the dungeon so that the balance of monsters in the world will exist. Such a minor detail that many people may not have needed to be explained, but Dungeon Meshi is nothing if not careful with details.
Orcs are used to introduce a political conflict between themselves, humans and elves, and the way it’s done is also not typical for other fantasy anime. First of all, it was done with humor, of course.
On top of that, it was peculiar to see how the characters were handling it, just screaming accusations at each other while kneading the dough, and yet kept working together, no matter what.
