Some male members of the Chainsaw Man audience have been quite baffled lately as to why this series is usually addressed as "an anime for girls". One of the recent reddit polls showed opposite results: out of 4k+ voters, more than 3k were men. So why do some fans say that Chainsaw Man is for girls, then? Let's investigate!
One of the first reasons is the female characters. We've already talked about Fujimoto (the mangaka of the series) being good at writing them, and we'll never get tired of mentioning it again. It's obvious that most female viewers are eager to see interesting and compelling girls on their screens, because gender does play a big role in our perception of the media.
Girls like seeing relatable girls, boys like seeing relatable boys, it's as simple as that. Of course, it doesn't mean that the female audience cannot enjoy a good old male protagonist. But the more engaging women a show has, the more women will get attracted to this show.
Moreover, we can't forget the second part of the manga, where Denji is replaced by a female protagonist for some time. Some fans mention the manga "falling off" for this portion of the story, and girls are outraged because their opinion is that this idea is entirely based on the fact of having a girl as a protagonist. Asa being the lead character drew a lot of women into the series, indeed, and made a couple of men upset.

Another idea is that Chainsaw Man doesn't look like a regular shonen show. It stands out because of its fascinating characters and unusual writing. Although female characters are sexualized, they are very aware of that and they use their sexuality to their advantage, they don't satisfy men in the series, they toy with them. Several female fans find it funny that Chainsaw Man is called an anime for girls because it's not "horny enough" for boys. They say that what they mean by that is that Denji is an admitted misandrist and he worships women.
Still, all of that is just a regular internet debate, and should not be taken too seriously. Chainsaw Man is an incredible series, packed with awesome action and characters. It doesn't matter what your gender identity is, if you enjoy the show, just keep enjoying it and have fun.
