Jujutsu Kaisen Creator Did Gojo Dirty in the Manga

Deserved better?

Jujutsu Kaisen manga spoilers ahead!

Summary:

  • Gojo’s death was handled poorly in the manga.
  • The death itself was very unsatisfying.
  • The events prior to his death should have been given more attention.

“Not the Gojo death conversation again.” Yes, this is the Gojo death conversation again. But what was wrong with it?

First of all, the death itself. We all know how crazy the fandom is about Gojo, he was always one of the fan favorites, and even his death will not take that away from us.

Gojo is an incredibly interesting and compelling character. His demeanor, his powers, his caring yet annoying confidence mix together so well, that you just can’t help but be entranced by him.

Of course, being loved by the fandom doesn’t make a character immune, and if the writer feels their death will be crucial for the overall story, they have to die. But this is exactly the issue with Gojo’s death: fans don’t see the point of his demise.

Why did he have to die?

There are various theories and opinions about the meaning of Gojo’s fate. Some believe that he had to go to make his students stronger. With him around, they would never have felt the need to fight for their lives the way they do now.

Others suggest that Gege didn’t know how to keep writing Gojo due to his immense powers and invincibility. Such a character requires a lot of attention to detail and you have to be very careful to make him still look human.

But the main complaint is how he died. We’ve already talked about how unsatisfying his death was here, but the things that happened before his defeat were also unfair.

We needed more Gojo chapters

Gojo had spent years sealed until he was finally released. The next big thing happening to him is death. Fans were craving more of him. Firstly, they wanted to see him interact with his students. Even if these would be just pointless wholesome moments, fans don’t care. They just needed something.

On top of that, there aren’t any details of what he was doing before his fight with Sukuna. Was he training? Was he gaining intelligence? How was he doing that? When? Where? All of these questions are left unanswered, and it’s very frustrating.

Fans just wanted at least a couple more chapters of Gojo, and this is a fair thing to ask. Besides, they are disappointed that Gojo didn’t do any lasting damage to Sukuna during the fight. There are rumors that he might have taken away Sukuna’s domain, but we’re still unsure about that.
