Too shallow for such a villain?
Jujutsu Kaisen manga spoilers ahead!
Summary:
- The Shibuya Incident Arc turned Kenjaku into one of the main villains.
- He was decapitated in Chapter 243 of the manga.
- Fans find his death unsatisfying.
The Shibuya Incident Arc made it clear: Sukuna is not the only major villain in Jujutsu Kaisen, Kenjaku is also someone to be reckoned with. When it comes to a villain of this scale, you expect something great happening when it’s time for them to be defeated.
But Kenjaku’s defeat doesn’t feel great at all. But why is that?
What happened?
Takaba’s confrontation with Kenjaku was a humorous one as the comedian tried hard to make Kenjaku laugh at his jokes. But Chapter 243 put a serious end to this fight when Yuta appeared out of nowhere and decapitated Kenjaku, saying that it was just a clever plan to distract the curse user.
Since then, manga readers have been discussing the possibility of Kenjaku still being alive after the encounter. “Jujutsu Kaisen is the only fandom where you can say someone is not dead after being decapitated,” fans joke.
But recent manga chapters could be considered proof that Kenjaku is indeed dead. Yuta appeared to join the battle against Sukuna, and there’s no mention of Kenjaku, so he must have really died.
Unsatisfying or well-done?
While his death was initially seen as something deeply unsatisfying by the fandom, manga readers seem to have made peace with it. Kenjaku fought someone who gave him a feeling he hadn’t felt in centuries and then died at the hands of Yuta, the one who originally defeated Geto. And we remember that Kenjaku is the one possessing his corpse.
Still, he was a major villain in the series and seemed like a character who knew a lot of important lore. And he died just like that, because of a stupid mistake, without even being able to reveal that information.
However, fans are still unsure if that’s the end of him. Kenjaku might come back one way or another, and there’s always a possibility that all the knowledge he possessed could be revealed in some other way. And they do hope that it will get revealed.
But if it was his real death, it’s upsetting. The decapitation scene felt rather lackluster and underwhelming. It was a mere shock for the shock’s sake. But with a villain like Kenjaku, something bigger was expected.
Therefore, there is still hope that Kenjaku will indeed be back to meet his end in a more appropriate way.
