Mushoku Tensei Fandom Is Getting Tired of This Rudeus Conversation

Fans keep discussing one thing over and over again.

Summary:

  • Mushoku Tensei’s protagonist is notorious for being problematic.
  • This topic is discussed almost every week.
  • Fans get tired of constantly talking about the same thing.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation (Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu) Season 2 keeps airing, which means all eyes are on the series again. And its main protagonist is something that fans can’t seem to let go of.

Problematic Protagonist

Mushoku Tensei has one of the most problematic and controversial main characters you can find in anime. He used to be a 30-something perverted man, who got reincarnated as a baby in a fantasy world.

But he kept all of his memories and he’s still a grown man mentally, which is why watching him advancing young girls romantically has been an ick for so many fans since Episode 1.

Even though the reincarnation may be considered as a reset, a lot of viewers don’t see it happening for Rudeus. He’s still his old obnoxious self, making inappropriate comments and annoying the hell out of the audience.

This criticism has all the rights to exist. Moreover, it’s absolutely valid and it’s more surprising when someone finds Rudeus’ behavior appropriate than when they’re disgusted by him.

However, the conversations about Rudeus are starting to get a little bit annoying for the fans. Everything there is to discuss has already been discussed, people know how inappropriate the main protagonist and his actions are, and yet there’s another debate about him every other week.

Mushoku Tensei is not just a series about a weird perverted guy you’re supposed to sympathize with. It’s one of the greatest isekai out there. It has a beautiful world, a wonderful exploration of magic, a lot of compelling characters (not including Rudeus, of course) and an engaging story.

That’s why the anime works so well and why it has so many fans and such great scores. It’s completely understandable why people hate Rudeus, but he’s just one con in a sea of pros.

Fans are getting exhausted by constantly engaging in the same conversation of whether Rudeus is a terrible human being or not. This topic has been hashed out a million times, and just few people find it entertaining anymore.

People even joke that they have to start a Mushoku Tensei drinking game. Having a drink every time someone mentions how problematic Rudeus is might turn into a dangerous game, though. It happens so often that it’s capable of turning the entire fandom into a bunch of alcoholics.
