The first episode of Solo Leveling got criticized a lot.
Episode 2 has been released.
It’s a significant improvement over the first one.
Solo Leveling spoilers ahead!
The premiere episode of Solo Leveling (Ore dake Level Up na Ken) was rather underwhelming. It felt like something was missing to make you really invested in this series, and a lot of people suggested that Solo Leveling needed more time to make you fall in love with it. And man, were they right.
What was wrong?
The first episode was just an exposition, introducing the main character and explaining a number of things about the series’ world. But it lacked excitement, and you didn’t really find yourself thinking about it minutes after reaching the ending theme.
To be even more honest, all we remembered about the first episode a week later was that there were monsters and the weakest hunter in the world. 20+ minutes for an idea that can be described in one sentence!
Episode 2 is much better
But then came Episode 2, and everything changed. Fans were right when they said the best part was yet to come. The new episode is full of action, suspense and sinister excitement. If you read the synopsis of the story before, you already knew that Sung’s mission would go terribly wrong, but you didn’t expect it to go THIS wrong.
Watching all the party members get brutally killed was one of the most shocking things we’ve experienced in anime. The feeling of despair permeated each second of the episode, and you genuinely didn’t know what to expect. You realized that at least the main protagonist had to come out of this alive, but you just didn’t know how he would possibly do that.
The smile of God that you could see in so many pictures and trailers before was absolutely horrifying, and all the deaths were so gruesome that you just wanted the suffering to end already.
The final seconds of the episode were even more exciting. The in-game-like screen appeared in front of Sung offering him a secret quest that could save his life. And it wouldn’t have been the beginning of a new story, had the main protagonist not accepted it.
To say fans are excited about Episode 3 is to say nothing. The series really unleashed its potential in the second episode and showed how appalling and sinister it can get. And we’re definitely here for more.
Did you enjoy the second episode?
The iconic smile is here!
