Premiering Solo Leveling With Just One Episode Wasn’t Enough

We should have gotten two of them.

Summary:

  • The first episode of Solo Leveling aired on January 7.
  • A number of European countries watched two episodes back in December.
  • Fans think we should have received two episodes as well.

The moment we were waiting for is here, and the Solo Leveling (Ore dake Level Up na Ken) anime adaptation is out. The first episode of the series premiered on January 7, and fans can finally experience the beginning of this journey. There’s just one thing that spoils the joy…

European premiere did it better

A couple of European countries already had the chance to watch the beginning of Solo Leveling in December 2023 before the series’ international premiere. Two episodes of the anime were shown a month ago, and it was a brilliant strategy. But why?

The thing is that the first episode of Solo Leveling doesn’t have much to offer. Don’t get us wrong, it’s not terrible or anything, but it wasn’t enough to truly get you into the series.

The episode ended on a cliffhanger, and while cliffhangers are usually fun and they only add to the excitement, your Solo Leveling impression might have been much better if you had been able to see more.

The first episode just sets the scene for what will happen next. It introduces us to the main character, and includes a lot of exposition, which is also important, we must admit. But it fails to attract a viewer’s attention.

The main story will start only in the second episode of Solo Leveling, fans say, and that’s why releasing two of them, just like they did with the European movie theater release, would have been much better.

Fans’ impressions

This feeling and the December premiere also impacted fans’ first impressions, since they were hoping to get the same treatment and receive both episodes or an hour-long special on January 7, but they’ll have to wait for a week to get to the good bit. Thus, they are disappointed.

Still, Solo Leveling is a very promising project, and judging by the ones who had the chance to experience it in December, it’s definitely a series to look forward to.

On top of that, as we’ve mentioned before, the first episode ends in an intriguing way, so fans admit that they’re curious to see more. Although the synopsis of Solo Leveling spoils a lot of what’s about to come, it’s still interesting to see how these things will transpire.

Solo Leveling is listed for 12 episodes, so there are 11 more wonderful weeks to come. And we’re excited to experience more. Fans expect the series to have a second cour or a second season in Fall 2024, and while it means we’ll have to wait for some time, we don’t think that rushing things will do the series any good.

We should have gotten two of them.
