We’re all used to various types of fanservice in anime, and such popular shounen series as Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) are no exceptions when it comes to this topic.
Fanservice in the anime
There’s something fanservicey in Demon Slayer character design for everyone: the men (Tengen, we’re looking at you) are ripped and handsome and Nezuko turns into an Instagram cosplay model when she’s in her full-demon mode, but the character that stands out the most is Mitsuri, whose uniform is very revealing and shows how well-endowed she is.
The initial reaction to her uniform is “ah, yes, fanservice at its finest.” We’ve seen plenty of such anime girls before, and it’s not even surprising anymore.
There were also other ideas like the female uniform being tailored to smaller bodies, and Mitsuri’s breasts were just too big for them. And no one bothered to adjust the uniform for her. However, it’s not entirely true.
Mitsuri was too kind to burn it
It was later revealed in the manga that Mitsuri’s uniform was made by Masao Maeda, who works in the sewing division of the Demon Slayer Corps. He is notorious for being a pervert and harassing female demon slayers.
Masao made sexualized uniforms for other female demon slayers as well, including Shinobu, Kanao, and Aoi. However, other girls refused to wear them and decided to burn them as a way of protest. Shinobu even did it in front of the tailor to show him how disgusted she was.
Mitsuri, on the other hand, was too shy and polite to do so, and she also didn’t want to ask for another uniform, so she decided to keep this one.
Mitsuri was embarrassed to wear it at first due to how revealing it was, and Obanai gave her striped socks to hide more parts of her body. The girl came to accept her new uniform after some time even though her initial reaction was not so positive.
Don’t get us wrong, at the end of the day, Mitsuri’s outfit is still a form of fanservice, but learning the truth about its origins tells us even more about Mitsuri and her character.
She’s so kind and gentle that she couldn’t even offend a terrible man, notorious for being a pervert. And she chooses to be a nice and lovable person over her own convenience.
Why is it different from other demon slayers’ outfits?
