Parasyte: The Grey Reveals New Teaser: Better Than We Expected?

Parasyte: The Grey Reveals New Teaser: Better Than We Expected?

Perhaps it’s too early to be disappointed.

Summary:

  • Parasyte: The Grey is the upcoming live action series based on the Parasyte manga.
  • It will follow new characters and be set in a different country.
  • The first teaser has been revealed.

Parasyte: The Grey is an upcoming South Korean Netflix live action series, based on the manga by Hitoshi Iwaaki and scheduled for April 5, 2024.

Although it’s based on the manga, it won’t follow the original events of the series, will feature new characters and won’t be set in Japan. However, the main idea stays the same: there are alien parasites who can take over human bodies and parasite on them to survive.

In the original manga Shinichi was the main character. One of the parasites tried to take over his body, but failed, and thus the two began to coexist and live in the same body. The parasite could only control Shinichi’s right hand, that’s why the boy named him Migi, which is “right” in Japanese.

Live action series decided to go with a different protagonist, a female one, Jung Su-In, but keep the initial idea: the parasite exists in her body, and as we can see from the previously revealed visual and the new teaser, it’s going to stay in her right eye. We don’t think the choice of the right body part was just a coincidence. Does it mean the live action series will keep the parasite’s name?

New teaser is out

We’ve finally got the chance to see the live action parasites in action! And fans admit that they don’t look even half as bad as they expected. The CGI in the teaser is executed quite well, and parasites are unsettling in a good way, and not in the poorly-executed one.

Judging by the teaser, there will be a significant vibe shift, since the original series was a psychological thriller that focused on Shinichi’s character development heavily, and the live action series is very action-focused. Parasyte: The Grey feels like a survival horror for now, which we can also see happening in the Parasyte setting.

Fans are pleasantly surprised

Back when the live action series was just announced, Parasyte fans were skeptical. We all know how bad live action adaptations can be, that’s why this skepticism is often the most common reaction.

However, the trailer made them doubt their hostility and even think that the upcoming series might actually be good. It’s even great that the South Korean Parasyte decided to go with different characters, since there will be less complaints about the story deviation then.

Fans still hope to see at least a couple of manga and anime Easter eggs in the upcoming series. We think they would lose their minds if Shinichi appears or even gets mentioned in the series, but it seems hardly likely for now, unfortunately.
