Record Of Ragnarok Has Some Issues, But Fans Still Love It

Failed anime adaptation and failed expectations from the fights.

Record Of Ragnarok found its fanbase pretty fast and received a warm welcome. However, it has some flaws or issues which are not crucial, but they can mess up your experience of reading (or watching) this title a little bit.

In case you don’t know, Record Of Ragnarok is a seinen, where gods from different cultures fight with the most powerful humans from history to see if humanity will live or be destroyed by gods. 13 gods against 13 human champions — who’s gonna win? Who knows…

Let us begin with the anime adaptation. It came out in June 2021 and received mixed reviews. Some fans were happy to see their favorite characters on screen, but others had some convincing arguments why this anime adaptation is a failure. Firstly, Season 1 only has 3 fights, which are stretched to the maximum. Secondly, the choreography of the fights is too poor and boring to watch — you look at the flashback, then at the PowerPoint presentation explaining what is happening, and then one character decides to punch another one or two times. That's a pattern you have to endure for 12 episodes straight.

Another problem is failed expectations. When fans see new characters enter the arena — they decide who is their favorite in that fight. If this character wins — they are happy, if loses — they are confused, because how could their favorite character die? He was stronger, and his motivation was more convincing, but he died anyway. The author has his own vision of what happens next, and he won’t please the audience every time. Well, and that’s not the anime's fault, obviously, it's in the fans’ expectations.

All in all, "Record Of Ragnarok" is a decent title (if you read the manga), but some problems can still make you think — “Should I read/watch this?” And, yes, you should! The fanbase of this title still loves it, defends it, and agrees that even though it has some issues, it is still good. And maybe you will love it too. It is not bad, and it is not excellent — just enjoy it, and keep in mind that not everything can be perfect, and you should give things a chance, like the fans of "Record Of Ragnarok" did.
