What’s wrong with the series?
Summary:
- Re:Monster is an upcoming isekai series where a young man is reincarnated as a goblin.
- The new PV is out.
- Fans are not excited and mention the story being very problematic.
Re:Monster was originally an action fantasy light novel series written by Kogitsune Kanekiru and illustrated by Yamaada, and it was later adapted into a manga. And it’s an isekai!
The series follows a young man, Tomokui Kanata, who is reincarnated as the weakest goblin in a fantasy world after being killed by a robber in his previous life. As a goblin named Goburou, Tomokui still has his human-life memories and gains the ability to evolve and absorb the abilities of other creatures by killing them.
The anime adaptation of Re:Monster is scheduled for April 2024, and we’ve finally got a proper teaser for the series, which is usually an exciting thing for the fans, but this time something went wrong, and the promotional video only made things worse.
New teaser is out
Fans say the teaser looks bland and there’s nothing really outstanding going on (although you have to admit that tiny goblins are rather cute). The premise also sounds like something we’ve heard plenty of times before, and it feels like this project shouldn’t hope to ever become big.
Studio Deen, that’s working on the adaptation, doesn’t seem to have a good reputation among the fans, either. Which they find fitting, as a dull studio is animating a dull manga. Sounds rather harsh, if you ask us, but we also have to admit that Re:Monster doesn’t look like something worth our time for now. But maybe things will change, who knows?
Re:Monster is rather boring
The Re:Monster manga is still ongoing, but some readers say that they stopped reading it long ago due to the constant hiatuses. A number of questionable things are also mentioned by the fans. They say the main protagonist is very problematic and annoying with his sexual themes. Some even go as far as to call him “a rapist” and they don’t enjoy the exploration of weird sexual kinks that the series provides.
The author tries to portray Re:Monster as a mature story, but fails. The sexual themes are problematic, and everything apart from them are just straight out boring. There’s still hope that the anime will fix these issues and adjust the story in one way or another, but this hope is extremely small for now, unfortunately. The animation and execution affecting fans’ opinion don’t look so probable, either. But maybe we just have to wait for April and see for ourselves.
