Solo Leveling (Ore dake Level Up na Ken) Episode 5 has just aired, and it’s fair to say that Jinwoo became the absolute star of it. Not that he wasn’t the main protagonist before, but the new episode made him shine even brighter.
It’s gotten fanservice-y
Let’s start the same way the episode starts: with fanservice. Jinwoo’s appearance has definitely undergone a couple of changes, and the viewers are not the only ones who have noticed it.
The nurses were absolutely gushing over Jinwoo’s looks and body, and we finally got our answer: there’s no more waiting until the main protagonist starts looking the way he does in the opening.
Someone’s appearance sounds like such a shallow thing to even be talking about, but let’s face it, it really is the thing fans discuss the most after Episode 5. We’ve recently mentioned that the way a character looks can impact their popularity a lot, and it does seem to be working.
Although Jinwoo’s change might seem rushed, it’s perfectly explained by the series. His physical appearance highly depends on his level, and we remember how much he leveled up in the previous episode.
Voice change was unexpected
On top of that, fans have also noticed other changes. The series changed Jinwoo’s character design a lot, and even his voice underwent a tone shift and became stronger and more appealing.
Fans praise Taito Ban (Jinwoo’s seiyuu) for his incredible acting and adjusting the voice depending on the story. They admit that they expected the appearance change because of the opening and posters, but the voice was a complete surprise for them.
Was it too sudden?
The fact that this change happened so quickly got fans in mixed feelings, though. On the one hand, they are more than excited to finally see Jinwoo’s full potential. And we have a feeling that we’ll finally witness it in the next episode, considering the ending cliffhanger. A big fight is on its way.
On the other hand, fans can’t help but want a bit more gradual buildup, since this way Jinwoo’s glow-up would feel more earned.
Anyway, no one can deny that Jinwoo is much more appealing as a character now, so we can ignore this sudden development and skip to the good bit, which is something that not a lot of series give us.
