We saw that 100 times and won't mind seeing it for 101st.
There are some tropes that make us roll our eyes whenever we interact with them. But there are also others that make us huff a laugh and think that yeah, this is gonna be a good time.
We've already talked about tropes that we hate, so now is the time for the silly clichés that we adore. We've got here a simple list of ten tropes that fit this description.
The almighty student council
Sometimes student councils in schools are more powerful than governments. Look at Kakegurui — it definitely has more budget than some countries, and significantly more power. Or Kill la Kill — just remember that speech about "Fear is Freedom" that Satsuki Kiryuin declares proudly and powerfully.
Coughing up blood with no consequences
There are a few reasons for a bloody cough. The least severe ones are broken teeth and jaws; the most severe ones, however, signify problems with the lungs or stomach. The first one prevails on shounen anime after some dire fights — you can see that anywhere, from Attack on Titan with Levi spilling fountains of blood from his mouth to the classics like Naruto. But if you see someone coughing blood outside of shounen, you can bring out the death certificate and be ready to sign it.
Overexplaining your abilities
There's only one show where this trope works: explaining your cursed technique in Jujutsu Kaisen makes the output stronger. Other than that, though, it just seems hilarious: you're telling your opponent exactly how you're planning to defeat them — and the opponent does nothing to hinder your movement, just patiently waits until you’re done monologuing.
Shouting the name of your attack
Look, it just won't work if you don't scream the name of your move loud enough. It's the law! Ask Monkey D. Luffy: all the cool characters have the name for their signature attacks. It also sounds cool, right? Right??? Please don't say no and don't disappoint Luffy.
Anime Rain Flu
Oh, you've been under the rain for fifteen minutes in the summer, and the next day you're out with an awful fever! But the day after that you are miraculously okay! Props to Bocchi! The Rock, the fever took Bocchi out for a week, not for a day, and it started two days after she immersed herself in an ice bath. But in other shows the mysterious flu develops almost instantly.
Gendo Ikari Glass Reflection
When the character pushes their glasses up their nose and they glint? Or when they just move their head a little and the angle makes the glasses opaque? Or when the glasses have this little ray of light running over the lenses as the character speaks something profound? There are a lot of shows that we can name as an example, but we'll go the hilarious way and outside of Neon Genesis Evangelion state Daily Lives Of High School Boys (Danshi Koukousei Na Nichijou).
Indirect kisses
The way characters obsess over indirect kisses is most of the time pretty cute. It's just so innocent, a completely normal thing to be anxious about in the early stages of interacting with the object of your affection. It can be hilarious, like it is in Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, or it can have certain undertones, like that one scene with Aki and Himeno in Chainsawman. Still, it's fun.
Isekai's obsession with some type of Yggdrasil
Due to the fact that the majority of isekai shows are set in fantasy worlds, most of them have some sort of an almighty tree that connects different realities that made the isekaing possible. You can see one in Farming Life In Another World (Isekai Nonbiri Nouka). Shame that despite the world having a tree like that it almost never becomes a part of the plot.
The power of the willpower
If you want something very, very much, you'll be able to achieve that. If you don't have enough power, you just have to want to become a bit more powerful to be able to defeat your enemy — and you will. The show that takes this trope to the top is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann — it owns this trope, makes it work for the absolutely bizarre plot in the best way possible.
Scream with a camera pan to the sky
If we didn't live in a society, almost constantly surrounded by people, we would've done the same thing quite often. When you are surprised by something, or hit by a sudden realization, just stop in your tracks, look up to the sky, and shout: "EHHHH?" as the camera moves away from you. Alternative camera movement is when it first showcases your face and then pans to the sky as your shout gets lost in the air. This one is a tried-and-true trope, a perfect description of frustration, so we'll go with a gag show for that — Gintama will do.
