Spice and Wolf (Ookami to Koushinryou) was originally a Japanese light novel series written by Isuna Hasekura that was later adapted into a manga and received an anime adaptation as well.
Remake is coming
The first season of the original anime aired back in 2008, and now, 16 years later, we’re getting a reboot of the series. The new project is called Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf (Ookami to Koushinryou: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf) and its release date is set to April 2024.
There are still some details that are yet to be revealed, such as the cour-length of the adaptation and the exact release date, but we hope to learn about these things in the near future.
We’ve already mentioned the reasons for the reboot but to cut it short: there were parts of the light novels that were skipped in the anime adaptation, although they turned out to be important for the story later on.
Spice and Wolf tells a story about a powerful wolf deity, Holo, who becomes a business partner of a merchant, Kraft Lawrence. The story explores their adventures together in search of economic opportunities with a taste of fantasy and romance.

The most obvious expectation, for sure, is for the remake to cover all parts of the story and fix the issue of the previous adaptation. Back then there was no telling which parts would be crucial in the future, and this time there’s hope that Passione (the studio, animating Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf) won’t make the same mistakes.
Besides, fans truly want the new Spice and Wolf anime to become big and successful, so that we’ll get Season 2, Season 3 and basically as many seasons as it will take to finish the entire story.
The original anime was very well received by the audience, so there’s a high chance that the remake will follow suit, and fans will finally have the opportunity to experience the finale of the story in the anime format.
