Spy x Family Doesn’t Explore the Concept of Friendship Enough

Yor and Loid would be happier with some friends.

Summary:

  • Spy x Family doesn’t explore friendship a lot.
  • The relationship between Anya and Damian is the closest thing to friendship in the series.
  • Loid and Yor also deserve something like that.

Although Spy x Family sometimes does it in the most bizarre and hilarious way, it explores one of the most important topics out there: family love and bonds. While it’s wonderful and incredibly important, there’s another topic that would fit the setting of the series a lot, but isn’t given proper attention: friendship.

Anya and Damian

The closest thing to real friendship we’ve got in the series for now is the relationship between Anya and Damian. It started like a funny childish feud and a lot of banter, but the recent chapters of the manga proved that it’s going somewhere else.

In Chapter 96, Anya finally tells Damian about her mind-reading abilities, and a lot of fans consider it a big deal and a very crucial step in their friendship. We have a feeling that their relationship will only keep getting better and we’ll see the true friendship blossom between these two.

Loid and Yor

Our parent duo, however, is not as lucky as their “daughter,” and it’s just unfair. It’s obvious that Loid and Yor have some sort of trust issues due to their jobs and their dark secrets, but it’s still upsetting that they don’t have any friends in the series.

To be fair, Loid doesn’t look like someone who needs a lot of friends. He gives off the vibes of a lone wolf. But Yor is completely different. Yes, she can be frightening and a badass assassin, but she deserves to have some people who would care about her, too.

Fans are upset that Yor doesn’t have any proper friends in the series. All of her coworkers make fun of her and treat her harshly because of how anti-social she can be. But we still know that she can also be the most adorable sunshine.

There’s a lot of potential for true friendships in the series and ways of exploring them. If Yor had a very close friend, she wouldn’t want to reveal her secret to them due to safety reasons. Imagine how great it would be if she had to hide and make up excuses in order not to hurt someone who’s close to her.

This would provide space for both hilarious situations and character development because friendships are extremely good for that. And it’s sad that there aren’t more of them in the series.

On top of that, it would be great to see the friendship between Loid and Yor progress, too. Of course, we all want them to be romantically involved and become a real family in the finale, but the idea of them becoming close friends first is very appealing.

They could become friends and start trusting each other first, and then reveal their true identities and understand their romantic affections.

Yor and Loid would be happier with some friends.
