Studio 8bit is working on three popular sequels, as well as a movie, at the same time.
Fans are worried about production schedules.
Others argue that while the studio is the same, different staff members are involved with different shows.
We’re getting many great anime series in the Spring 2024 season. A lot of them are sequels, though.
Three of them in particular — Laid-Back Camp (Yuru Camp△) Season 3, The Irregular at Magic High School (Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei), and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken) are all produced by the same studio, 8bit.
As such, fans are worried about their production schedules.
Making Three TV Series and a Movie at the Same Time
8bit isn’t exactly a studio that is known for top-tier productions. Yes, they were responsible for the previous seasons of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and The Irregular at Magic High School (the latter — starting from S2 only) — both anime have good action, but aren’t exactly outstanding in that regard.
Laid-Back Camp, though, wasn’t produced by them before, and fans are worried if the studio workers can manage such a production schedule. As if that wasn’t enough, Reincarnated as a Slime and The Irregular at Magic High School air on the same day back to back.
Multiple Productions at the Same Time Often Don’t Work
Naturally, fans are worried about the production for these shows. Other studios that were producing so many anime at once included MAPPA — we all remember how that turned out — and J.C.Staff back in 2019, which resulted in One Punch Man S2 disaster.
8bit is smaller than both MAPPA and J.C.Staff, and fans have all the rights to be worried.
It Might Not Be That Bad
Others, however, argue that production schedules might not be that bad. We’ve seen some pretty good action in Reincarnated as a Slime PVs, indicating that some amount of work has already been done before the anime even started airing.
And Laid-Back Camp doesn’t have any action at all — its style generally doesn’t require more than a very limited animation.
There’s also not much staff overlap between the three series — it’s not only the studio that matters. The teams working on three anime seem to be separate from each other.
The studio is also likely to rely heavily on the work of freelancers. That said, it tends to be a double-edged sword, as the schedules suffer a lot from that — and if 8bit doesn’t pay them enough, we might get another MAPPA situation on our hands.
Are we getting another MAPPA-type situation?
