What happened to the series we all so loved?
Death Note spoilers ahead!
While speaking about Death Note, fans often mention the decrease in its quality closer to the end of the show. No one can deny that Death Note was spectacular for a long time, but what happened along the way?
Such debates are usually centered around one of the most crucial plot twists in Death Note: the death of L. Light and L's cat and mouse chase was the reason the series was so entertaining, their sharp logic and conclusions forced the viewers to open their mouths in awe on more than one occasion.
So when L was no longer in the picture, fans got understandably upset. Moreover, L was highly popular among the viewers, so his death was heartbreaking for them. However, this is not the only moment we'd like to talk about today.
Let's go back to episode 24 of Death Note.
Light gets his memories of being the original Kira back, and L finally gets ahold of the death note, thus learning that shinigami are real and there is a supernatural power behind all the murders. Before this moment, L has never stopped suspecting Light of being the true Kira. Nothing could influence his confidence on this matter. Even after Light's memory loss, his opponent was not convinced. L's ability to see right through the main protagonist has always been impressive.
But what happens now?
The truth is revealed, L has more information about the powers of the death note, he realizes that it can be transferred, sees Higuchi die of a heart attack, and he still lets Light have the note and doesn't think that boy is behind fake Kira's death.
Fans point out that Higuchi's name was never written in the death note, and after his memory loss Light has become less suspicious, but some disagree that it was not a good enough reason for the detective's trust.
Although there was never enough evidence pointing at the main protagonist, L has always been incredibly perceptive. He is the only one who could see the true Light, and that's why him being defeated seems so puzzling to the audience.
This was the first sign of what was about to happen. L losing his guard and doubting his decision to deem Light the Kira was the foundation for his following demise.
It's obvious that the story could never end with both of the geniuses' victory, and while some found pleasure in seeing Light succeed, some were devastated by L's failure, and they blame the story for ever letting the detective trust Kira.
