Tokyo Ghoul Remake Not Confirmed Yet, but the Series Definitely Needs One

It’s time the Tokyo Ghoul fandom was heard.

Summary:

  • A special 10th anniversary Tokyo Ghoul project has been announced.
  • A remake hasn’t been confirmed.
  • However, this is the biggest hope in the fandom.

Last week caused two waves of excitement in the Tokyo Ghoul fandom. First, there were rumors about a special 10th anniversary project being in the works. Then, these rumors turned out to be true, and the project was confirmed.

Special project

The upsetting news, though, is that not many details have followed the announcement (apart from the YouTube broadcast of the series), and we still don’t really know what exactly this mysterious project is.

Seems like Tokyo Ghoul fans have already decided what project they want to see the most: a remake of the anime adaptation. It’s important to point out that no such thing has been officially confirmed, but you can already find dozens of speculations about it online.

It’s not the first time fans are talking about the remake of the series. A Сhange.org petition was created back in 2019, addressed to a number of popular animation studios such as MAPPA (Jujutsu Kaisen), ufotable (Demon Slayer), Bones (My Hero Academia), A-1 Pictures (Solo Leveling), and others.

In the petition, a fan asked the companies to consider a remake of Tokyo Ghoul Season 2 and Tokyo Ghoul:re, but the petition was signed by less than 5,000 people and was unsuccessful.

There has to be a remake

There’s a simple reason why a remake is the first thing fans think of when they hear about a special Tokyo Ghoul project: the anime desperately needs it. Season 1 wasn’t that bad, and it made the series immensely popular back in the day, but everything that followed left a lot to be desired.

Tokyo Ghoul Season 2 is considered one of the worst anime adaptations ever. It deviated significantly from the manga, had poor quality and made little to no sense most of the time. Even if you’re not the strictest critic in the world, you will notice at least a couple of things that are wrong with the season.

The most upsetting part is that the manga is nothing like the anime adaptation. Tokyo Ghoul is one of the most popular seinen series out there, notorious for its great story and exceptional lore. Fans love this manga dearly and want it to be treated with respect.

A remake of the anime sounds like a dream for Tokyo Ghoul fans. They’re desperately waiting for a brave studio to hear their prayers and give them the adaptation they’ve always wanted. And who knows, perhaps such a thing is really on its way.
