10 Worst Battle Shounen Worlds to Live in, Ranked

10 Worst Battle Shounen Worlds to Live in, Ranked

It would be quite scary to live in one of these.

We often imagine ourselves in the worlds of our favorite stories. Wouldn’t it be cool to be part of the action and save the world, after all? However, imagine how terrible it would be to live in such a world as a completely ordinary human.

Battle shounen anime often have worlds that are very cruel to those who live in — and here are 10 which would be absolutely horrifying.

10. Demon Slayer

 - image 1

Living in the world of Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) doesn’t sound very good. You can just be killed by a demon randomly, and nothing would save you — Demon Slayer Corps mostly exterminate demons after their sightings, so after they have already managed to claim some people.

Fortunately, there’s nothing that indicates demons even exist outside of Japan — and that’s why the anime isn’t higher on this list.

9. One Piece

 - image 2

One Piece is a world of fun and adventure, right? Well, maybe. However, to normal people, pirates aren’t “fun” — they’re criminals, and a lot of them (mostly the antagonists) will kill without any second thought.

As if that wasn’t enough, the force that is supposed to enforce the law all over the world is corrupt and arguably even worse.

8. Fire Force

 - image 3

Fire Force (Enen no Shouboutai) is like our world — except if some people started randomly bursting into flames, destroying everything around them. That’s already a scary premise, and it gets worse after you realize how common it actually is in that world.

It’s hard to blame people who are scared of fire already, and in that world, that fear must be incredibly common.

7. Dragon Ball

 - image 4

The world of the Dragon Ball franchise is very odd. Filled with many beings from different planets and universes fighting in martial arts tournaments, it has a lot of deaths — and sometimes, whole planets are destroyed.

You can often die without even knowing what happened — and then the whole thing will be returned to normal after using dragon balls.

6. Hunter x Hunter

 - image 5

The world of Hunter x Hunter isn’t bad because of existential-threat-level enemies. It’s bad because, if you paid attention to the anime, you would have noticed that an average person in that world is incredibly poor.

The world is controlled by organized crime syndicates, operating within two countries which are dystopian dictatorships. Monsters would be the least of your problems.

5. Bleach

 - image 6

Bleach holds a very unique spot on this list. Enemies there might not pose the same amount of immediate danger to civilians — however, there’s still enough of it. And, if you happen to die, what happens after is far worse.

Seriously, afterlife in Bleach is the most horrifying existence ever, and we can’t wish that on anyone.

4. Jujutsu Kaisen

 - image 7

Seriously, did you expect an anime which bases its own power system on negative emotions to be good to live in? No, and Jujutsu Kaisen is perhaps a unique case where you’d rather be a normal person than a named character, considering the amount of deaths it features.

That said, thousands of civilians probably died during the Shibuya Incident Arc, so it would be awful regardless.

3. Naruto

 - image 8

Two words: child soldiers. Naruto is an anime which utilizes child soldiers in a cycle of endless medieval-like wars. As if that wasn’t enough, civilians often end up among the biggest casualties (as we can see with the Nine-Tails attack).

And even if you become a ninja, 99% of the time — as long as you’re not a major clan member or otherwise important — you’d be expendable.

2. Fist of the North Star

 - image 9

Yes, technically, the classic Fist of the North Star (Hokuto no Ken) is a battle shounen — as it was published in the Weekly Shounen Jump magazine. The setting is already bleak enough, with the world having been ravaged by a nuclear war.

The civilization is in shambles, and land is often ruled by tyrants who consider others expendable. This doesn’t even include giant monsters and other villains. The only consolation is if you live there, you’re probably used to it.

1. Chainsaw Man

While it can be argued how much Chainsaw Man really is a battle shounen, it’s definitely not a world anyone would want to live in. Devils are the leading cause of deaths in this world, and nobody can really stop them outside of a select few people.

Gun Devil has claimed millions of victims, and it’s not even the biggest threat in the series — in fact, it’s pretty tame by Chainsaw Man standards.
