Star Detective Precure will cross over with Magical DoReMi, and both credit a creator who does not exist
Episode 39 dresses the Star Detectives as witch apprentices on October 25. Both series are credited to Izumi Todo, a pen name that began with Doremi.
Star Detective Precure! is getting a crossover with Ojamajo Doremi, known in the US as Magical DoReMi. The official website announced on Friday that episode 39, airing on October 25, will be a Halloween episode with the Star Detectives dressed in Doremi-style witch apprentice costumes. It released a collaboration visual and character visuals to go with it, Anime News Network reports.
The pairing is less random than it looks. Both shows are credited to the same creator, Izumi Todo. Izumi Todo is not a person.
A creator invented for Doremi
According to Wikipedia, Izumi Todo is a collective pen name used by Toei Animation's television producers. The name comes from Toei Doga, the studio's former name, and its Oizumi Studio. And its use began with Ojamajo Doremi.
From there it spread across Toei's girls' anime:
- Ojamajo Doremi (1999 to 2003, plus later spin-offs).
- Ashita no Nadja (2003 to 2004).
- Pretty Cure (2004 to the present), starting with Futari wa Pretty Cure.
Star Detective Precure!, the 23rd main entry in the franchise, lists Izumi Todo as its creator. Next week's episode is a crossover between two series credited to the same invented author.
Why 1999
The new series is already set in Doremi's year. Its heroine, Anna Akechi, is a second-year middle school student who travels from 2027 back to 1999 when a fairy called Pochitan appears on her birthday. In 1999's Makoto Mirai Town she meets Mikuru Kobayashi, who dreams of becoming a great detective. They fight Phantom Thieves who steal people's precious belongings, and transform into Precure detectives who use deductive reasoning.
ANN notes that 1999 is the year the original Ojamajo Doremi premiered. Wikipedia gives the date: February 7, 1999. Star Detective Precure! premiered on February 1, 2026, on ABC TV and TV Asahi, in the same Sunday morning slot that You and Idol Precure had held before it.
How many episodes Doremi has
The count depends on where you look. Wikipedia's infobox gives 201 episodes in Japanese and 50 in English. Its own list goes further:
- Ojamajo Doremi (1999 to 2000): 51 episodes.
- Ojamajo Doremi # (2000 to 2001): 49.
- Motto! Ojamajo Doremi (2001 to 2002): 50.
- Ojamajo Doremi Dokkan! (2002 to 2003): 51.
- Ojamajo Doremi Na-i-sho (2004): 13 OVA episodes, set during the third season.
- Owarai Gekijo (2019 to 2020): 26 short episodes on Toei Animation's YouTube channel.
- Honobono Gekijo (2020): 5 OVA episodes.
That adds up to 245. The 201 covers only the four TV seasons.
The English number has a gap of its own. 4Kids Entertainment licensed only the first season, which aired as Magical DoReMi on 4Kids TV in the 2005 to 2006 season. ANN calls it a heavily edited version. The first season had 51 episodes; the dub has 50, because episode 30 was skipped.
A 20th anniversary in its 21st year
Doremi already has a film about looking back. Looking for Magical Doremi, released for the franchise's 20th anniversary, follows three adults, Sora Nagase, Mire Yoshigaki and Reika Kawatani, who watched Ojamajo Doremi as children. Staff from the original series returned, including Junichi Sato as co-director with Haruka Kamatani, and the original voice actresses reprised their roles.
The film was scheduled for May 15, 2020, and was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It opened on November 13, 2020, more than 21 years after the series premiered. ANN reports that it went on to win Best Animation Film at the 75th Mainichi Film Awards in 2021.

- Whether the original voice cast is involved.
- Whether the crossover is part of the 1999 plot or a standalone Halloween episode.
Toei invented Izumi Todo for Ojamajo Doremi in 1999. Twenty-seven years later, an Izumi Todo series has sent its heroine back to 1999, and on October 25 it dresses her as a Doremi witch apprentice.
