One Piece opens its first U.S. store in Los Angeles on November 6, with the anime off the air until 2027
ONE PIECE MUGIWARA STORE Los Angeles, the first official One Piece store in the U.S., opens November 6 at Westfield Century City, with reservations required for opening week. It arrives while the TV anime is off the air until 2027, two years after a pop-up at Anime Expo in the same city.
The first official One Piece store in the United States opens in Los Angeles on Friday, November 6. Reservations to get in open on Thursday, October 22, at 6 p.m. Pacific Time, and for the first week they are not optional.
ONE PIECE MUGIWARA STORE Los Angeles is a joint project of Toei Animation and Sony Group Corporation, Crunchyroll reports. Toei calls it the largest official One Piece merchandise store to date. It sits on Level 2 of Westfield Century City.

What is inside
The store carries merchandise that is only sold at the Los Angeles location, plus products built around original animation artwork. Toei has also produced an original video made only for this store.
The most unusual piece is a character. "Surfer Chopper," an exclusive version of the Straw Hats' doctor, talks to visitors as they shop. Toei's original announcement promised a store where visitors could "immerse themselves in the world of ONE PIECE and discover something new with every visit." A Chopper who talks back is the most literal version of that promise so far.
From a convention booth to a mall in two years
Los Angeles has seen a MUGIWARA STORE before, just not a permanent one. In July 2024, Toei Animation brought what it billed as the first-ever MUGIWARA STORE pop-up in the United States to Anime Expo, inside its exhibit booth at the Los Angeles Convention Center, from July 4 to July 7.
Toei's press release for that pop-up described the retail concept it was copying: at the time, eight locations across Japan, offering more than 10,000 items from the anime and manga, including limited editions not sold anywhere else. The booth carried MUGIWARA-exclusive merchandise that had previously been unavailable outside Japan.
That same weekend, Toei and Crunchyroll held the English dub premiere of episodes 1090 and 1091, the start of the Egghead Arc, and the One Piece Music Symphony played its U.S. premiere at the Shrine Auditorium. Two years later, the pop-up has become a permanent shop in the same city, and the Japanese broadcast has gone from the start of Egghead at episode 1090 to episode 1180 in Elbaph.
Los Angeles is also where Toei's U.S. arm lives. Toei Animation Inc. is based in the city and manages distribution of Toei properties such as One Piece, Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon and Digimon in North America, Latin America, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Its Los Angeles office also oversees consumer product licensing for those territories, the side of the business a flagship store belongs to.
A store with new episodes nowhere in sight
The timing is unusual for a franchise built on a weekly anime. On September 27, the One Piece TV anime aired its last episode of the year, episode 1180, and the official accounts announced that the next broadcast will come in 2027. No more precise date has been given.
So the Los Angeles store opens while Japanese TV has no new episodes to show. The anime has been in the Elbaph Arc since April 2026: after escaping Egghead, the Straw Hat crew, joined by the Giant Warrior Pirates, finally reaches Elbaph, the Land of Giants. Crunchyroll streams the series with subtitles and dubs, including all broadcast episodes of the arc so far, along with a selection of the theatrical films.
When Toei first announced the project, the company said the Los Angeles location would open in fall 2026. November 6 keeps that promise with about six weeks of fall to spare.
Twenty-nine years of One Piece, first time in a U.S. shop of its own
The scale of the franchise makes the late arrival stand out. According to Toei, Eiichiro Oda's manga debuted on July 22, 1997, in issue 34 of Weekly Shonen Jump, and marked 25 years of continuous publication in July 2022. The anime adaptation first aired on Fuji TV in 1999 and celebrated its own 25th anniversary in 2024.
That is nearly three decades of the series before an official MUGIWARA STORE opened in the United States. The name comes from Luffy's crew: Mugiwara means straw hat.
The opening is set for November 6, with reservations required through November 12. On the broadcast side, Toei has not yet said when in 2027 episode 1181 will air.
