5 Anime to Watch if You Liked Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy

Surprisingly, Tsukimichi has shaped up as one of the best isekai anime of recent times.

Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy (Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu) has been one of the better-received isekai anime recently. That can be attributed to the fact that the anime is very similar in its approach to a parody.

It walks the line between a parody and an earnest take on the genre, and it’s good at both. While the second season is scheduled for two cours, it can still be hard to wait for new episodes every week — here are 5 similar series to watch if you can’t wait.

KonoSuba

Perhaps the most famous example of an isekai that is both a parody and a good work on its own is KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! (Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!). The two anime have an extremely similar style of humor, and if you liked one, you’d probably like the other.

Moreover, KonoSuba is getting a third season in Spring 2024. Catch up now, and you can watch both series weekly.

Reincarnated as a Slime

Another isekai anime that is getting S3 in Spring 2024, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken) is a lighthearted take on isekai with a protagonist who has to interact with many non-human characters.

Both protagonists assemble followers very quickly, and in both, they’re clearly overpowered — but in a way that makes the anime fun to watch. The political elements are more prominent in Reincarnated as a Slime, but you also find some in Tsukimichi.

Iruma-kun

Another mostly light-hearted isekai series, Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun (Mairimashita! Iruma-kun) also features an overpowered main character in a world full of non-humans. Also, in both, the main character has to hide his identity — although the exact circumstances are somewhat different.

Overlord

Do you want another isekai anime with an incredibly overpowered protagonist with many strong subordinates? If so, Overlord is one of the earlier examples of that trope — and despite the protagonist of Overlord being introduced as evil, we soon learn that he’s more of an anti-hero.

Another common point between Tsukimichi and Overlord is that both anime have many political subplots in them. While they’re rarely addressed directly, we can see how the actions of protagonists influence the world.

Mashle

If you want something vaguely similar to Tsukimichi that isn’t actually an isekai, Mashle: Magic & Muscles might be a good recommendation.

Both series are comedic takes on their own genres with extremely overpowered protagonists — and in both, the protagonist is strong despite his circumstances. They feature similar styles of comedy and are both quite lighthearted most of the time, with serious elements popping up occasionally.
