Frieren is not just an action anime, but when it does action, it executes it well.
We want to rank the characters of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Sousou no Frieren) based on how powerful they are. Which battles have we enjoyed the most so far?
5. Stark and Fern
It is difficult to determine who is more powerful: Fern or Stark. Their power levels are probably similar if you can compare a warrior and mage. Fern learned from the best, but so did Stark, and they both manage to kill demons during the Aura Arc. In fact, Stark managed to kill a dragon as well, while Fern has not had such a major milestone in her life just yet. But overall, we think that those two are similar in power, and if Fern lacks something compared to Stark the Dragon Slayer, she makes up for it by being less of a coward.
4. Aura
Aura was a powerful demon, who also commanded an army of beheaded warriors, which, we believe, should also be considered a power of hers. She did have an advantage when creating her army because she was comparing her mana to that of warriors, and warriors generally do not need a lot of mana like Aura the mage does. However, her mana reserves were tiny in comparison to Frieren’s mana, which is why Aura is weaker than Frieren.
3. Frieren
Frieren is a powerful mage, which is especially true since she has had literal millennia to hone her skills. She easily outclasses Aura in their contest of mana reserves, and she knows a lot of spells, both useful and not so much. She does have to rely on Fern when they are surrounded by monsters because Fern’s attacks are quicker. Overall, Frieren is powerful but not omnipotent.
2. Demon King
The Demon King was a powerful creature. An entire party of two warriors, a priest, and Frieren the mage, had to come together to defeat the Demon King. As a result, we can assume that the Demon King was more powerful than Frieren. We do not have a lot of proof for that, but it seems reasonable.
1. Qual
Qual was loyal to the Demon King, but he might have been even more powerful. That is because while the Demon King was killed by Frieren’s original party, they were only able to seal Qual away. Qual, it seems, was a scholar who created an immensely powerful spell. As time passed, the spell was worked into regular magic studies, and even Fern was able to erect a barrier strong enough to hold that spell at bay. With Fern’s help, Frieren was able to kill Qual, but only due to the decades of research that Qual could not know about since he was sealed away for so long.
