Much like Aka Akasaka's other popular work, Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, the characters in Oshi no Ko are complex and compelling.
But what really makes the Oshi no Ko titles shine is the realism of its characters and their struggles. It's impossible not to admire Ruby and Aqua, even when their journeys take them to dark places.
1. Akane Kurokawa
A character who shows that behind the mask of a quiet and shy person can be hidden amazing talents. Her story also highlights the importance of support and help from others in finding a new meaning to life.
Akane's unique trait is her incredible ability to penetrate the thoughts and feelings of other characters, analyzing and revealing their personal details that the audience may not know.
2. Aquamarine Hoshino
A complex character who struggles with the dark side of his soul, but never loses his humanity. His story reminds us of the difficulty of choosing between revenge and forgiveness, as well as the importance of supporting and caring for loved ones during difficult times.
Aqua comes across as cold and manipulative, ready to use the people around him in his games. At the same time, despite his misadventures, he retains a delicate and caring heart.
3. Taishi Gotanda
A talented director and professional, he plays an important role in the story of Ruby and Aqua. He is one of the few characters who knows the twins' true heritage. Thanks to Taishi, Aqua was able to realize his dream of acting, and he not only knows, but also supports him in his quest for revenge against Aya's killer.
As the boy's mentor, Taishi also plays an important role in raising him after Ai's death. Though he may hide his true intentions, Taishi provides Aqua with great support when needed.
4. Ruby Hoshino
Ruby inherits her mother's looks, confidence, and charm, and is not afraid to pursue her dream of becoming an idol despite the tragic fate that befell Ai. Ruby also displays a friendly and outgoing personality and quickly makes new friends after entering high school.
While dealing with the pain and grief of losing Ai, Ruby is passionate about preserving and continuing her mother's dream. Her tireless spirit allows her to overcome rejection and resurrect B-Komachi despite the risks and possibility of failure.
5. Sarina Tendouji
A child who spent most of her life in the hospital because of her illness. She was abandoned by her parents and faced many physical and emotional trials. However, thanks to her love for Ai and the support of her doctor Goro, Sarina remains cheerful.
Despite her weakness, Sarina continues to practice Ai's choreography and strives to improve her dancing skills.
When she is given the opportunity to transform into Ruby Hoshino, she gladly accepts the chance to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming an idol.
