The new season is already halfway through.
In 2022, an anime adaptation of the rather popular sports manga Blue Lock by Muneyuki Kaneshiro, known for his love of survival games, was released. The second season started in the fall of 2024.
What Happened in the Finale of Season 1?
The protagonist is Yoichi Isagi. After a critical mistake in the school league, he took the chance to prove himself and realize his ambitions. The boy wants to become the best striker in Japan. Now he is the second from the end – an ordinary loser who, according to the laws of the genre, must beat everyone.
In the first season of Blue Lock there are two qualifying rounds. The winners of the last one get a chance to play with the stars of world football.
After this competition, the players are herded into a small room. Coach Ego tells the boys that his project is in danger of being shut down. To prevent this, the Blue Lock team must defeat the Japanese youth team.
What Is Happening in Season 2?
Eight of the 14 episodes announced for the season have already been released. The first five episodes show the preparations for the game that will decide the fate of the Blue Lock. Ego selects a team of eleven attackers, while conflicts within the Japanese youth team grow.
In the following episodes, viewers are shown the preparation for the decisive game of the season. The game starts and Ego's students miss the first goal. But a player named Nagi scores the first goal for the Blue Lock.
Is Blue Lock Season 2 Worth-Watching?
It is important to understand that Blue Lock is not a classic anime about team sports, as was the case in Haikyu!! and Kuroko's Basketball. The author reinvents the spokon genre and partly football itself. There are no boring games and clashes, there was never an offside in all the episodes, no one gets red cards for infractions.
There are a lot of characters, but at the same time almost every one of them is revealed. And Coach Ego has his own idea of football. The character invents some new terms and techniques, the purpose of which is to bring the boys closer to some superhuman indicators.
The characters do not always succeed the first time, and they develop before the eyes of the viewer. It is not always clear who will score a goal this time: you have to guess and sit in suspense.
