Netflix closed its Anime NYC panel with the announcement the room was waiting for: Studio Trigger and CD Projekt Red's second Edgerunners installment arrives October 20, with a full second trailer to go with the date.

The season moves to a new set of characters in Night City. The one the trailer keeps returning to is a solo — that's a freelance gun-for-hire, in Cyberpunk's vocabulary — named Weak Kingsley, whose ability to distinguish what's actually happening from what his implants are telling him is degrading. Cyberpsychosis, in other words. Anyone who watched the first season knows what this show does with characters whose hardware starts outrunning their minds, and it is not gentle.

Attendees got the first ten minutes on the main stage: a heist that collapses because Weak glitches at the exact wrong moment. The visual register is 90s CRT distortion crossed with graphic-novel panel work, which is Trigger doing what Trigger does. The opening credits are scored to The Cure's "10:15 Saturday Night" — a needle drop so specific that someone on that production clearly fought for it.

For context on the stakes here: the 2022 first season was a ten-episode standalone tragedy about David Martinez and Lucy that did something almost no piece of licensed animation manages. It didn't just work as a show, it dragged Cyberpunk 2077 back from one of the worst launches in modern gaming and made people care about the game again. A sequel season has a very specific bar to clear, and the bar is emotional damage.

October 20. Netflix. Schedule nothing for the day after.
