Dandadan's third season is coming in 2027. Seasons one and two arrived nine months apart. The gap between two and three will be about eighteen, and the announcement that set that up was made a year ago.

Dandadan season three has a first look and a confirmed 2027 window. No month, no episode count.

Put the schedule in a line and the shape becomes clear:

  • Season 1 — 12 episodes, 4 October to 20 December 2024.
  • Season 2 — 12 episodes, 4 July to 19 September 2025.
  • Season 3 — 2027.

Six and a half months between the end of season one and the start of season two. Somewhere between fifteen and twenty-seven months between the end of season two and the start of season three, depending where in 2027 it lands.

The announcement is a year old and is being reported as news

Season three was announced immediately after the season two finale in September 2025. What arrived this month is a first-look image and the confirmation of the year — useful, but not the announcement, and a good deal of the coverage is framing it as one.

The distinction matters because it changes what you are waiting for. A show announced a year ago with a year-level window is a show in production. A show announced this week would be a show in pre-production. Those are different amounts of waiting.

The director changed between seasons and almost nobody mentions it

Season one was directed by Fuga Yamashiro at Science Saru. Season two was co-directed by Abel Gongora alongside Yamashiro.

That is a meaningful shift for a show whose entire reputation rests on how it moves, and it happened quietly between two cours that most people experienced as continuous. Coverage of season three has so far said nothing about who is directing it.

The manga has not slowed down at all

  • Serialised on Shonen Jump+ since 6 April 2021.
  • 25 tankobon volumes as of September 2026.
  • Over 10 million copies in circulation by March 2025.
  • More than 360 million views on Shonen Jump+ as of November 2023.
  • Won Best Shonen at the 31st Manga Barcelona Awards in 2025 and the 71st Shogakukan Manga Award in 2026.
  • Second in the 2021 Next Manga Award web category; first on Japan's nationwide bookstore employees' 2022 recommendations.

Twenty-five volumes against twenty-four animated episodes. Whatever the gap between seasons costs the anime, it is not a source problem.

What is still unknown

The month. The episode count. The director. Whether season three is a single cour like its predecessors or something longer, which is the question the eighteen-month gap actually raises — a longer production usually means more episodes, and nobody has said either way.

A show that went from first episode to twenty-fourth in under a year will take longer to deliver its next twelve than it took to deliver its first twenty-four. That is what a hit looks like from the inside when the schedule stops being the priority.
