Delicious in Dungeon a story about a group of travelers exploring a dungeon. Due to fatigue and hunger, they lose a battle against a large red dragon. Laios (the protagonist) loses his sister as a result of the battle — she sacrificed herself and magically transported the heroes out of the dungeon.
Now the protagonist's party must return to the dungeon for the girl. In order not to repeat their mistakes, they decide to eat well. The resources for meals are monsters, which the heroes meet in the dungeon. Already in the first episode we were shown several appetizing dishes.
It might seem that Delicious in Dungeon is another anime about cooking, but it's not that simple. First of all, it belongs to the seinen genre, which means that it will touch on some adult themes.
We should not forget that the plot is based on the main character's desire to find his sister. Nevertheless, the first episode looks cheerful — it is a perfect mix of fantasy and slice-of-life.
Incredibly appealing
The hype around the first episode is great. First of all, it's a fresh take on the genre — while food in anime always looks impressive, it's not often that you see something disgusting used as a source for cooking meals. Many fans have noticed the well done adaptation and are looking forward to the next episodes.
Kui Ryoko (the author of the manga) is highly praised for worldbuilding and attention to detail. Trigger Studios seems to be doing a good job so far in setting accents and implementing the main idea of the source material.
The main characters of Delicious in Dungeon were especially admired. Especially the elf Marcille was impressive — her excessive emotionality and fussiness adds brightness to the events. In general, the chemistry between the characters is visible from the very first minutes of the anime.
Although the other members of the group in Marcille's background do not stand out in the first episode, they do not feel boring. The plot of Delicious in Dungeon also doesn't seem hackneyed and seems to give us a lot of unforgettable memories.
