Who are all these girls?
Summary:
- In the first two episodes, the creators adapted an entire volume of a light novel.
- Classroom of the Elite is primarily a harem, so it's not surprising that it has so many characters.
- Episode 3 came out recently and some viewers had trouble recognizing the characters.
Classroom of the Elite (Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e) Season 3 was one of the most anticipated releases of the season. But like some other titles this winter, it had a few problems.
The main one, of course, is the pacing of the narrative — in the first two episodes, the creators adapted an entire volume of a light novel and already started on a new one.
Of course, everything looked less critical, and viewers unfamiliar with the source material didn't even notice the dynamic. However, the fast pace provoked another, more serious problem.
There are too many girls
Classroom of the Elite is primarily a harem, and the main trope of this genre is usually a guy with many different girls gathered around him. However, because Ayanokouji is made as emotionless as possible, we can sometimes forget the genre affiliation of this title. Just until we see sexualized scenes involving female characters.
It's not surprising that Classroom of the Elite has so many characters. However, while in the first two seasons we were introduced to new characters more smoothly and gradually, in Season 3, because of the accelerated pace, there is sometimes no time to even remember the characters that have already appeared, let alone the new ones.
Furthermore, there are more high school students involved in the story, and in addition to the students of the four main classes, we have a number of names to remember.
Hard to understand
Episode 3 came out recently and it seemed like the pace had finally slowed down, but some viewers had trouble recognizing the characters — scenes changed and a new girl appeared in each one.
This problem was already present when Akane Tachibana suddenly became important to the plot. The new episode introduced several new heroines — Sakayanagi's assistant and Ayanokouji's classmate who is secretly in love with Yosuke Hirata.
It's hard to say if this amount of characters is necessary for this title. Sometimes it seems that it would have made more sense to have less characters and focus the story on Ayanokouji, Horikita, Karuizawa, Sakayanagi and Kushida.
However, the creators decided to adapt the light novel as much as possible and kept almost all of the characters. They seem more organic in the novel because more time is devoted to their revelation and development.
