Haikyuu!! Releases Extra Material for the New Movie

Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle is going to be adapted into a novel.

Summary:

  • Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle is getting more announcements on the day of the theatrical release.
  • A new printed book will feature interviews and commentary on the series, as well as commemorative art.
  • The arc that the movie covers, The Dumpster Battle, is going to be adapted into a novel.

The new Haikyuu!! movie, The Dumpster Battle, premieres on Friday, February 16th. Usually, extra content for new anime is only released months after them — or, if it is promotional content, months before. Despite that, the movie has released a new trailer recently, and now reveals more material.

Along with the movie, there will be two publications released for the series. They include Haikyuu!! magazine 2024 FEBRUARY — which includes an interview with the mangaka, multiple “interviews” with Haikyuu!! characters and much more. Moreover, the movie itself will be adapted into a novel, which will be published by Jump Books.

The new publication includes many interviews

Haikyuu!! magazine 2024 FEBRUARY is a printed book stylized like a magazine — which, in Japanese, is called “mook”. This publication will have a lot of extra content for Haikyuu!!, only some of which is related to the new movie. In addition to the interview with the mangaka, Haruichi Furudate, there will also be an interview with Yuji Nishida. Nishida is a professional volleyball player who is a fan of Haikyuu!! — and he has already given interviews regarding the series a few years ago.

Outside of interviews with real people, the new publication will include interviews with Haikyuu!! characters, which are, presumably, written by Furudate. Outside of Hinata and Kageyama, both of which appear on the revealed cover, the characters interviewed will include Kuroo and Oikawa, as well as Nekoma High School team members.

More extra content

The publication will not consist of only interviews, however. Since it is tied to the release of the movie, it will include original storyboards from it, as well as the commentary from staff and cast members on the production. The publication will also include a commemorative poster, as well as drawings by Furudate's assistants.

A novel based on the series?

What is most interesting about the announcement, however, is a full novelization of the movie. Haikyuu!! is no stranger to novel adaptations — in fact, the Haikyuu!! magazine 2024 FEBRUARY will include a new chapter for its light novel spinoff, Haikyuu!! Shousetsu-ban!!.

What is different here, however, is the novelization of Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle being published separately. Fans wonder how good it will be — after all, it might be hard to depict such a dynamic sport as volleyball in text. That said, they are cautiously optimistic about it, though the novel is probably not being translated into English anytime soon.
