Heavenly Delusion Won Anime Trending Awards, So You Have no Reason to Skip It

Fans already want the second season.

Summary:

  • Heavenly Delusion won the Anime of the Year award in 2023 Anime Trending Awards.
  • Fans don’t really watch mystery adventure series like this one anymore, but Heavenly Delusion is an exception due to its execution.
  • The second season is unlikely to be announced anytime soon

Heavenly Delusion (Tengoku Daimakyou) is the kind of anime we don’t really get often anymore. An adventure in a post-apocalyptic world, the anime follows two young people in search of something called “heaven.” The anime deals with a lot of heavy themes like human nature — and is very much worth watching if you still haven’t seen it.

Aren’t convinced? Well, the anime won in the 2023 Anime Trending Awards. While that is in no way an official award, it’s still somewhat of a big deal. After all, it competed against fan-favorite series like Jujutsu Kaisen S2, Vinland Saga S2 and Oshi no Ko — and won over all of them.

It belongs to a dying genre

Mystery series like this have actually been quite popular before. There have been many series where the nature of the world itself is a mystery, but it seems that these anime have been on decline recently. Modern fans just don’t want to watch anime where they don’t understand things, even if they will eventually get revealed.

Heavenly Delusion proves, however, that with proper execution, these series can still capture hearts of the audience. The anime has everything you could want from it — plot twists, beautiful animation, great action and likable characters. Seriously, check it out: you won’t be disappointed.

The anime is extremely well-made

Perhaps the first thing fans noticed about the anime is its animation. It’s absolutely gorgeous, and the most impressive part is the backgrounds. The animation alone drove many people to watch the series, and they found themselves invested after just one episode.

The first episode specifically perfectly sets the tone for the series. It showcases the post-apocalyptic world and introduces the main duo of characters. Moreover, it provides some background information — not enough to fully reveal the mystery, but just enough to make fans invested and perhaps allow them to create some theories.

Fans want another season, but it’s unlikely to come out anytime soon

If there’s one problem with Heavenly Delusion, it’s lack of a proper finale. The ending of the anime is not a bad stopping point per se, but the manga is still ongoing. However, the anime stopped at Chapter 38 of the manga — and currently, there’s not enough content for another season.

With the manga being released monthly, it would take another year to just get enough chapters for another season — and who knows when (and if) the second season will actually come out.
