Is The Black Butler Manga Really Getting Boring?

Having started out quite strong, is the manga gradually fading away or is it all part of the plan?

Black Butler is a shonen manga that tells the story of the young сount Ciel Phantomhive, who made a contract with a demon to take revenge on the killers of his parents. According to the contract, the demon, to whom Ciel gave the name Sebastian, must play the role of a servant, or rather a butler, and unquestioningly carry out all the orders of the count until the latter achieves his goal.

The manga has been published since 2006 and at the moment 207 chapters have already been published, but apparently Yana Toboso, the author of the manga, is not yet going to finish the story. This makes some fans wonder if the manga is losing its former charm.

The first thing many manga fans point out is how slowly the plot develops.

At the beginning of the story the chapters were larger, more events involving the story took place, which brought us closer to solving the main mystery — the murder of Ciel's parents, but now the chapters have become noticeably smaller and, accordingly, the story moves more slowly.

Additionally, the fact that chapters are released once a month makes it even more difficult for fans to wait for each chapter and end up getting one tiny piece of important information once a month (or even not getting it at all).

However, some readers have noticed that this is not the first time that a story has lost its momentum, only to shoot back with renewed vigor, for example, like the mini-arc with a cricket game that lasted several chapters but did not bring any development to the plot, but after which some of the most important events in the story began.

Another point that upsets some fans is that for about the last 20 chapters the main characters of the story, Ciel and Sebastian, have not appeared.

The story is now focused on other characters, such as Meirin, Bard, Finny, who play an important role in the manga, but are still minor characters. The story progresses in such a way that, having divided into groups, Ciel's servants and assistants disperse to different locations to collect the necessary information.

Thus, the story focuses on the successes of the minor characters.

In addition, the narration of the story itself is interrupted by flashbacks of these characters. It all seems rather boring and uninteresting, but some fans disagree. Some readers are also interested in learning about those characters who appear from the very beginning of the story, but who have not yet received enough attention. And perhaps Toboso herself is not giving us this information just like that.

So, even though the manga has slowed down the pace in its storytelling, it still remains entertaining to a large number of fans who are excited to see where the story goes next.
