Jujutsu Kaisen's Nobara Definitely Deserves More Attention, Here's Why

We want to see more!

Summary:

  • Yuji, Megumi and Nobara are the main characters, but Nobara doesn't get much screen time.
  • Nobara is a well-rounded character with an interesting backstory and a challenging personality.
  • Nobara didn't get a chance to show her skills.

Jujutsu Kaisen has many interesting characters to empathize with. Some of them are revealed as the story progresses, while others remain in the shadows. Despite the fact that the anime has three main characters — Yuji, Megumi and Nobara — the girl's story does not seem to get the attention it deserves. In Episode 19, she will have to fight the powerful cursed spirit Mahito. So it feels like a good time to talk about her.

Country girl in the big city

Nobara was born in a small town and wanted to move away all her life. She didn't understand the people of her village, their mentality and habits. A meeting with the city girls Fumi and Saori finally convinced her to move. Fortunately, the girl has magical abilities. She enrolled in a sorcerer's academy. There she met Yuji and Megumi and they became good friends, even though they were skeptical of each other at first.

Nobara is a well-rounded character with an interesting backstory, unusual skills, and a challenging personality that fits perfectly into the Jujutsu Kaisen universe. Despite her difficult character, she always shows sympathy for her friends. Nobara was very upset when she heard about Yuji's fake death. She also defended Maki against attacks from Kyoto students and calmed Yuji down when they had to kill Eso and Kechizu on a mission.

Great potential

Although Nobara is a very interesting character, she seems to be unrevealed compared to the other characters. Even considering the trio of main heroes, the girl's story clearly lacks development. Most of the screen time is obviously dedicated to Yuji. Megumi's story is connected to Satoru Gojo's, so the audience learns a lot about him through flashbacks. As a result, there is no time left for Nobara.

However, her story has a lot of potential. Firstly, it relates to the girl's past. We know about her motivation to leave the village, but the rest of the details are missing. Also, it seems that Nobara didn't get a chance to show her skills. The fights with Eso and Momo were colorful and dynamic, but there was no special development of her cursed technique. The same can be said for her character. Yuji's and Megumi's stories are filled with overcoming, while Nobara's is more of a side story without any development at all.

It's noticeable how little time she was given in the Shibuya Incident Arc. In fact, we only saw her fighting Haruta Shigemo. Although she seems to be a close friend of Yuji and Megumi, they haven't even met during the whole series. We can only hope that the next episode will fill that gap.
