Sadly, we are not getting it soon.
Summary:
- MAPPA is working on multiple important anime projects at once.
- Jujutsu Kaisen S3 is likely not airing until 2025.
- It will probably cover the entire Culling Game Arc.
Perhaps the most highly anticipated anime sequel right now is Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3. It’s supposed to adapt The Culling Game Arc (as well as chapters from shorter arcs before it), and it’s been announced right after the second season ended.
Despite that, we’ve still had no news on it after the initial announcement. So, what is MAPPA doing exactly, and when can we expect the third season of JJK to come out?
When Is It Airing?
The answer is actually not so simple. Jujutsu Kaisen isn’t the only sequel MAPPA is working on right now. They haven’t even made any announcement regarding Hell’s Paradise (Jigokuraku) S2, and the first season of that ended before Jujutsu Kaisen S2 did. Not to mention them also working on the Chainsaw Man movie.
All these big projects are probably being worked on at the same time. None of them have dates announced, and, realistically, they’re not coming out until Fall 2024 at best, and even that date doesn’t seem that likely at least for all three.
The more realistic prospect is to expect Jujutsu Kaisen S3 somewhere in early 2025 — the anime is definitely big enough that MAPPA might prioritize it, but an earlier air date is very unlikely. After all, we’ve got no key visuals or teaser PVs — no promotional materials whatsoever.
How Much Will It Cover?
There’s also a question of how much the third season will cover. It will probably cover the rest of Itadori’s Extermination Arc (started in the last episode of S2) and the Perfect Preparation Arc in addition to the Culling Game Arc.
With two seasons covering somewhat a bit under 140 chapters, this seems like the most logical idea.
Yes, the Culling Game Arc is somewhat long, and the pacing of the anime will probably increase a bit, but it won’t be anything outrageous. The arc ends at Chapter 221, and the third season will probably end there as well.
What’s About the Later Arcs?
As for the adaptation going past that, it’s way too early to speculate. It’s commonly accepted that JJK will be fully adapted (despite the outrage about the current arc).
That said, we don’t even have enough content for one cour past Season 3, and it’s impossible to predict how the anime will turn out.
