Sawako Kuronuma is a very kind and sweet girl, but those around her seem not to notice it, calling her Sadako – a ghost from the horror movie The Ring. Shy Sawako would like to change her bad reputation, but she is too afraid to do so.
However, a popular and cheerful high school student, Shota Kazehaya, immediately notices the sincere nature of his classmate and falls in love with her.
In an attempt to get closer to Sawako, he helps her make friends in the class, and they in turn try their best to get the shy couple to confess their feelings.

In September 2023, it was announced that Kimi ni Todoke would get a new season after more than ten years. The first two seasons ran from 2009 to 2011, and the third season was released on Netflix on August 1 and consists of five episodes.
Those who watched the anime a decade ago should not worry – the same voice actors have returned to the lead roles, and the studio Production I.G., best known for the anime Ghost in the Shell, is once again responsible for the production of the series. The ratings for the new season are also impressive – each of the new episodes has a score of over 9.0 on IMDb.

In 2023, a Japanese drama of the same name was released, based on the same manga by Karuho Shiina, which was published from 2005 to 2017 and has 30 volumes. The manga about the difficulties of socialization, first love and offensive misunderstandings proved to be not only popular but also relevant after twenty years.
