My Hero Academia Chapter 417: What Will Happen to Shigaraki?

My Hero Academia Chapter 417: What Will Happen to Shigaraki?

Chapter 417 is releasing soon, and there are many theories.

Manga spoilers ahead!

Summary:

  • MHA manga readers are speculating about the future of Shigaraki.
  • Deku will probably see his past in the next chapter, but there are many theories about what happens next.
  • Fans are confident in the mangaka’s ability to wrap up the storyline properly.

The final arc of My Hero Academia (Boku no Hero Academia) manga has been going on for a while. That said, the manga is near its logical conclusion now — or at least, its main plot is.

While there are still many side plotlines to be resolved, fans are wondering what is going to happen to Tomura Shigaraki. They aren’t sure his end will be satisfying, no matter what actually happens.

Deku will see Shigaraki’s past

Among other things, Izuku’s One For All Quirk allows him to see the memories of past wielders. Fans expect it to reveal Tomura’s — or, more precisely, his past identity, Tenko Shimura’s — memories to him as well.

In fact, Shigaraki’s flashbacks were already teased in Chapter 416, and while we know his past, Deku doesn’t yet. While it is impossible to predict how it will affect Midoriya, we have already seen Shigaraki lose his mind every time he is reminded of his childhood, and now, he’s more unstable than ever.

The rest is uncertain

Opinions on what happens after that seem to be split, though. There’s no real continuation from there. Or, at least, fans don’t see one: killing Tomura unceremoniously would be very anticlimactic, and not something My Hero Academia would even do.

That said, he can’t really be let go, either. Imprisoning him isn’t an option, however: at this point, he’s so strong that he can easily break out of any conventional prison, so he’d only be detained for as long as he wishes to.

Considering the spirit and mentality of All For One lives through Shigaraki, there’s little doubt that he will not accept life in prison — at best, he would plan to return some time later.

Other options are even worse, but fans dismiss them as implausible. Shigaraki suddenly getting amnesia and becoming a completely new person — or perhaps reverting to his original identity — would be incredibly cheap and uninteresting.

If that doesn’t happen, but he still wants to atone for his crimes, he can’t just be forgiven, either — and there’s no one to vouch for him.

Fans aren’t concerned

Still, fans are somewhat confident that Horikoshi will do something to bring the main plot line to a satisfying conclusion. They just don’t know what it will be.

After all, MHA has never had a problem with forgiving villains too easily — and Shigaraki is a complex and beloved character, so he will definitely get some closure despite paying for his crimes.
