The new season premieres on April 5th.

Summary:

  • The new PV for That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime was revealed.
  • The third season might fix some issues from S2, but some fans are concerned it will not have enough action.
  • The anime is announced to air for 2 consecutive cours.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken) is one of the most popular isekai franchises, and so, more anime content is always expected. Just in the past year, we've got a new 3-episode mini-series called Visions of Coleus, as well as the streaming release for the movie, Scarlet Bond.

That said, the thing fans were hyped for the most has been, of course, the third season of the anime. It is scheduled to air in April, and the latest revealed PV makes fans very optimistic about it.

Why is it so popular?

The reason Reincarnated as a Slime is so popular is actually pretty simple. At its core, it's just a simple but entertaining story, which combines endearing character moments and natural plot progression with good action moments and a well-written fantasy world. Too many isekai go all-in on one thing, but Reincarnated as a Slime excels at many at once.

Besides, Rimuru is a very solid isekai protagonist whose focus is very simple. He just wants to develop his self-proclaimed nation and lead it to prosperity.

Speculations about S3

The second season of the series was somewhat criticized for being a bit confusing. This, however, doesn't seem to be an issue that is limited to the adaptation: the same material in the light novels was just as messy, with many scenes being shuffled around for seemingly no reason.

While there are hopes for S3, some of the source readers are concerned because two of the volumes it will probably cover are mostly slice of life, which might kill some of the hype. In general, otaku don't take genre shifts from action to slice of life very well, and so, viewers are wondering if these volumes would be better if covered by the Slime Diaries spinoff instead.

Production seems to be good

The most interesting part is definitely the fact that the new season will air for 2 consecutive cours. S2 was split in 2 parts, so a return to the format of S1 is always welcome.

Fans don't want to wait between seasons — besides, split cours instead of consecutive airing might indicate troubles with production. It seems that the Reincarnated as a Slime anime is in a very good place right now.

If you're watching the series on Crunchyroll, you might be confused, as the website indicates that 5 seasons are out already. That is wrong, and the season/episode numbering on CR is often weird in general — especially for anime like this, which already had multiple seasons and OVAs.
