No One’s Immune: 5 Anime Where Characters' Lives Cost Nothing

Fear and loathing!

We often associate anime with happy characters, fun and entertainment. However, the anime series can sometimes be very cruel and bloody (in this case, the creators are ruthless towards the characters). Watching such titles can be extremely difficult and unpleasant, especially when your favorite hero is brutally killed. At the same time, these are the titles that evoke the strongest emotional response.

Here's a short list of the most violent anime where no one's immune. And yes – no spoilers ahead.

Chainsaw Man

Chainsaw Man is obviously one of the most brutal series of recent years. The story of Denji, a teenager who suddenly gains superpowers, is filled with scenes of bloody murder and random violence. Anime literally begins with the hero being humiliated in a public place. We can assume that for modern anime, Chainsaw Man has become something like Game of Thrones, where an important (as it seems) character dies unexpectedly. However, this uncompromising approach to storytelling only makes you care more about your favorite characters.

Berserk

Another example of an anime that increased the level of gore is Berserk. Although the series aired in the 1990s, it still frightens sensitive viewers. Guts' odyssey through the world of medieval fantasy is full of gruesome scenes. It is not only the main character who kills his enemies with bestial cruelty, but also the dishonorable treatment of women and children. Many viewers criticized the show for its realistic scenes of violence. But in a world where human life does not matter, things cannot be any different.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

Similar events occur not only in the dark past, but also in the technologically advanced future. The Cyberpunk series, based on the video game, takes place in the near future. It is a dystopian world where, despite high technology, the standard of living remains quite low. It is not surprising that in such circumstances authorities’ violence and arbitrariness flourish. The series begins and ends with deaths, so there is no point in looking for hope here.

Made in Abyss

As the title suggests, this series will not be a pleasant adventure. The anime is about a teenage girl who descends into the abyss (a crater with a mysterious purpose) to find her mother. Once you enter the abyss, it is difficult to get out. The deeper you dive, the more you lose your human appearance. Not to mention, there are predators in the deeper levels. The situation is aggravated by the fact that the main characters are children who suffer innocently.

Heavenly Delusion

Of course, no list of violent anime would be complete without a post-apocalyptic series. In the universe of Heavenly Delusion (Tengoku Daimakyou), a strange catastrophe has destroyed civilization. One day, a couple of teenagers embark on a journey through an abandoned world, where they encounter many difficulties. In the series, despite its bright form, there are a lot of unpleasant things: cannibals, experiments on people, perversion of bodies. In some scenes, Heavenly Delusion almost looks like body horror. The end of the world is a terrible thing, as the series suggests. So we have to do everything we can to preserve the world we have.
