Tower of God Season 2: Everything You Need to Know

Tower of God Season 2: Everything You Need to Know

The anime is coming out in July 2024.

Summary:

  • Fans have been asking for S2 for Tower of God for a while.
  • There was a new teaser revealed at IGN Fan Fest 2024.
  • The art style in S2 will be closer to that of the manhwa.

Tower of God (Kami no Tou) was perhaps the first major adaptation of a manhwa. With the source material being incredibly popular, the anime, too, was a huge hit — and fans have been asking for a sequel for a while. They are finally getting it, so here’s everything you need to know about it.

Why are people so hyped about S2?

The second season of Tower of God was actually announced back in 2022. Despite that, the anime still hasn’t aired — it is scheduled for July 2024. Fans have been expecting it for a while, and for multiple reasons.

One reason is the popularity of the source material. Around 2020, it felt like the anime industry was going to adapt a lot of popular manhwa, with the anime for Tower of God, The God of Highschool and Noblesse all airing close to each other. Still, most considered this a failed experiment, as the latter two series didn’t do very well.

With Solo Leveling (Ore dake Level Up na Ken) being one of the most popular anime right now, and Tower of God receiving a second season, it seems that these are back on the menu.

Another reason why Tower of God desperately needed a sequel is how obviously unfinished the anime is. With how many plot twists and sudden reveals there are in the source material (and how long it is), the anime never had a chance to explain a lot of its events. The fact that the first season ended on a cliffhanger only makes things worse.

A new teaser was revealed

Thankfully, we are getting a second season — and at IGN Fan Fest 2024, a teaser for it was just revealed. The teaser features Taichi Ichikawa, the voice actor of Baam, who gives a quick recap of the series and asks the fans to look forward to the second season.

While not a PV in a traditional sense, this teaser still features some footage from the series at the very end. Surprisingly enough, the animation in the teaser looks noticeably different from that of Season 1.

The art style has also changed, and the explanation for this is very simple: people producing the anime decided to make it look closer to the manhwa.

Normally, anime changing its art style is not something fans receive very well. This was even the case with S4 of Haikyuu!!, where the art style was also slightly changed in favor of making it closer to the manga.

That said, it seems that Tower of God fans are actually satisfied with this change — or at most, don’t feel anything about it. The first season of anime was criticized by some for its art not matching that of the source material, but those fans were a minority. It feels like the fandom is just happy about S2 being a thing.
