The Quintessential Quintuplets fans, you don’t want to miss this one.
Summary:
Tying the Knot with an Amagami Sister is yet another harem romcom anime, and it revealed a new PV.
The premise is somewhat similar to that of The Quintessential Quintuplets, but with supernatural elements instead of mystery.
The anime is airing in 2024, but probably not in the next season.
Tying the Knot with an Amagami Sister (Amagami-san Chi no Enmusubi) is an upcoming harem series announced for 2024. It revealed a new trailer recently — which also confirmed the voice actors of the characters — and fans seem to be pretty excited for it.
More harem anime?
The harem genre is obviously not something for everyone. However, it does have its fair share of dedicated fans, and it seems that we are getting more harem series again (in comparison to the late 2010s, when they were slowly dying out).
In particular, we are getting more and more harem series that don’t focus on action and rather just develop relationships between the characters.
Some recent examples of the genre include The Quintessential Quintuplets (5-toubun no Hanayome), TenPuru: No One Can Live on Loneliness (Temple) and We Never Learn: BOKUBEN. Tying the Knot with an Amagami Sister is another one in the chain of these harem manga adaptations, and it seems to be well-received by the source readers.
What is it about?
The setup is pretty simple: Uryuu Kamihate plans to go to medical school — only to find himself having to live with three sisters of the Amagami family who work at a local shrine. Not only does he live with them, but he actually has to marry one of them in the future and inherit the shrine.
Despite the setup being similar to that of The Quintessential Quintuplets, the actual goal of the anime isn’t particularly similar. In Quintuplets, there was a mystery aspect of which one girl is going to win — and there have been hints throughout the series, here and there. That doesn’t seem to be the case here.
That said, the comparison is still very fitting: Marcey Naitou, the mangaka, was formerly one of the assistants of Negi Haruba, the author of Quintuplets.
The supernatural element of Tying the Knot with an Amagami Sister will be prominent enough — after all, shrines are often associated with Japanese mythology. That said, don’t expect any action or anything: it’s still primarily a slice-of-life harem comedy with slow romantic development.
What does the PV tell us?
The voice cast the teaser revealed is pretty famous: the three girls will be played by Sumire Uesaka, Kaede Hondo and Shion Wakayama, and the male lead will be Ryouta Suzuki. Sadly, we still don’t know when the anime is going to air: it’s announced for 2024, but it’s almost certainly not next season: in fact, Fall is the most likely option.
