- There’s still hope that the situation will change.
Undead Unluck is an ongoing supernatural adventure anime series animated by MAP…uhh…we mean David Production. It revolves around Fuuko, a girl who represents the “unluck” part of the title due to her weird ability to bring immense misfortune to everyone she touches, and Andy, the “undead” who’s incapable of dying thanks to his extraordinary regeneration powers.
The anime is really incredible
The series has managed to make us fall in love with just a couple of episodes (to be honest, episode one was all it took). The bizarre and sometimes dark humor, rather dumb sexual innuendos, eccentric characters and absolute weirdness that the anime exudes are all mixed together to provide such a unique and quirky vibe that will make you feel highly entertained and thinking “I have no idea what the hell is going on here but I love it!”.
Fans seem to be disappointed due to the lack of hype surrounding the show. Back when it was first announced, manga readers were excited. They were already hooked on the series and couldn’t wait for it to become bigger and more popular. And what do we have now? The ratings are good, the reviews are positive, the fans seem satisfied, but still… not much hype? Unacceptable!
Why no hype, though?
They say that the main issue with Undead Unluck is bad marketing. The show gets little to no promotion on social media except for Twitter (sorry, we still can’t call it X, we need more time). And even there the anime doesn’t seem to be getting the attention it deserves.
Besides, the show is only available on Hulu (or via pirating), which is an American streaming service, majority-owned by Disney, and it feels like the anime community shares the idea that such platforms are a poor global release choice.
It all leads to fans’ fear and worries about the adaptation. They are scared that if the situation remains the same and the show doesn’t become more popular, it might affect the anime production in the long run. Undead Unluck might be passed to another studio or dropped entirely. Neither of the options seem likable by the fans, since they’re really enjoying the work David Production has been doing.
The series is not doomed just yet
Fans seem to have hope, though. The anime looks incredible after all, and we’ve only seen the first couple of episodes of it for now, so there’s still time for Undead Unluck to attract more attention. And considering the high quality of the anime, there are definitely good chances of that happening. Besides, they say that it’s much better to have a truly impressive project with bad marketing than a low-quality series with great marketing, so no matter what the outcome is going to be, Undead Unluck will stay in their minds as an outstanding example of what an adaptation should be like.
