We recently got a preview of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Episode 20. Fans are excited because they saw a lot of battles. We haven't had a lot of action in the series, but that's not a bad thing, since this title surprises in a different way — with its light atmosphere and unusual take on adventure.
However, those rare moments of combat were a nice addition to the story and fit well with the style of the series. Viewers have been waiting for another demonstration of Frieren's powers for a long time and the Exam arc is a good opportunity.
Long-awaited (or not so long-awaited) action
Perhaps all viewers remember when the first major battle took place in Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. It was Episode 10, and it featured the Frieren party fighting demons. The event was important for several reasons — it was the first time Frieren showed her power and revealed the secret of mana.
At the same time, we saw a full-fledged villain — Aura, who seemed to be the main villain of the series. This event was also the first unexpected plot twist — Frieren easily defeated the demon and Aura quickly disappeared from the plot.
Since then, many episodes have passed and the action has barely appeared. Now, however, the First-Class Mage Exam Arc has begun, with Frieren and Fern being tested to become first-level magicians.
Even though the first test didn't involve a forced solution, some candidates decided to fight in order to complete the task successfully. In Episode 20, we'll likely see a lot of fighting between the characters we've already introduced.
Incredible power
The audience is aware that Frieren has great strength, but we have seen little real evidence of it. The exception is the fight with Aura. According to the preview, Frieren will also have to fight in the next episode, but whether she will use her power is a big question. Even though the trial is supposed to test her abilities, she prefers not to use combat magic.
On the other hand, Frieren and Fern must pass the first level or they will not be able to continue their adventure. Besides, there are some not-so-good mages among the test participants, such as Übel, who can easily kill a human.
It is quite possible that Übel will cause a lot of problems for the main characters, and Frieren will still have to use her magic to stop her. Anyway, there is not much time left to wait and soon we will find out what Frieren will do.
