Don’t worry, there are other options.
Summary:
- Hyouka Season 1 came out back in 2012.
- The anime was successful, but never received a sequel.
- The novels it was based on also stopped coming out.
- There’s another great series by the same author.
Hyouka is a 2012 mystery anime, based on the Classic Literature Club novel series written by Honobu Yonezawa. The first volume of the novels is called Hyouka, thus the name of the anime adaptation.
The anime follows Houtarou Oreki, a high school student that joined the Classic Literature Club to save it from being abolished. Alongside other members of the club, he solves various mysteries and puzzles that follow them in their daily lives.
A Sequel Never Came
The series became popular pretty quickly, and the MyAnimeList score of 8.07 can tell you that the anime became quite a success. So fans naturally wanted it to go on, and were waiting for a sequel.
But Season 2 never came, and since it’s been over 10 years already, the hope of ever getting it is bleak. That’s why a lot of fans quit waiting and turned to the original source, which is a novel series.
There are six Classic Literature Club volumes, and we’d like to tell you that more keep coming, but the only thing we can do is further disappoint you. The last volume, titled ‘Even Though I'm Told I Now Have Wings’ was published almost 8 years ago, in November 2016.
Fans have lost their hopes for both the anime sequel or a new volume of the series, and it’s upsetting. Hyouka was promising indeed, and it’s puzzling that it was just forgotten about one day.
There’s Another Series, Though
But there are still a couple of things you can do if you’re a fan of Classic Literature Club. If you’re craving more Hyouka-like mystery, you can try out the Shoushimin series that was written by the same author, Honobu Yonezawa.
The good news is that it’s also getting an anime adaptation. How to Become Ordinary (Shoushimin Series) is in the works by Lapin Track and is scheduled for July 2024.
Fans say that it’s the best way to heal your heart after the disappearance of Hyouka and Classic Literature Club, and are confident that the upcoming anime adaptation will bring back the sweet taste of mystery that you loved Hyouka so much for.
There’s hardly a chance that either the novels or the Hyouka anime will be back, but there’s also a currently ongoing manga adaptation, so you might want to try it, too, if you’re missing the series greatly.
