10 Anime Worlds You Definitely Don’t Want to Live in

No, thanks, we prefer the real world.

While we all love anime dearly, and worldbuilding plays a crucial role when it comes to the reasons for our love, a lot of anime have terribly frightening worlds that look incredibly fascinating when you see them in a fictional series, but would be awful to really live in.

So let’s look at these worlds and discuss why living there wouldn’t be such a great idea.

1. One Piece

If you haven’t seen One Piece, you might be surprised by this one at first because the series looks super bright and fun, but don’t let a pretty picture fool you. First of all, this is a series about pirates, and while pirate aesthetics is fascinating, encountering real pirates has never been one of our dreams.

On top of that, One Piece’s world is full of slavery and corrupt governments. Nah, thanks, we’ve got enough of that in the real world.

2. Psycho-Pass

 - image 2

This anime portrays a world where every citizen’s mental state is constantly monitored, and while some people might dream of regular mental check-ups, it’s not so positive in Psycho-Pass. People are judged by a system, and we all know that systems can malfunction.

What if you get angry at someone but the system decides that you have criminal intent? You’ll have to be really careful every second of your life, and while self-control is not the worst thing in the world, it might become highly exhausting.

3. Berserk

Violence, gore, demonic beings, sexual assaults, horrors — it’s like Berserk truly wants you to feel disgusted by its world. It’s one of those worlds where you wouldn’t want to step foot even for a mere second.

Fans even go as far as to say that the world of Berserk is the worst one of all the anime, and they might have a point, considering all the terrible things that happened in the series.

4. Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin)

 - image 4

Such an obvious choice, but it still has to be mentioned. Living like cattle behind the walls, being stripped of your freedom and hunted by hideous monsters roaming behind those walls. No one truly wants that.

The world of Attack on Titan makes you feel hopeless and depressed, and you don’t really want to visit it even if you’re the most devoted Levi fan.

5. Tokyo Ghoul

 - image 5

Do we even need to explain why a world filled with ghouls that eat people is not the most wonderful place to live in? Sometimes it feels like everyone suffers in this anime, and no one is safe.

Even if you’re just living your simple life (like Kaneki did), there’s no confidence that you won’t stumble across a ghoul one day and get eaten just like that. Zero out of ten, would not recommend.

6. The Promised Neverland (Yakusoku no Neverland)

 - image 6

Another world with dark creatures, and this time hideous demons are the ones who you should stay clear of. And it’s not one of those worlds where they hide in the shadows, no.

They have power and force people to bring up children only for them to be harvested as food for the demons. They live happy lives before that moment, at least that’s nice, but still, serving as a meal for monsters is hardly anyone’s dream.

7. Goblin Slayer

 - image 7

This world is full of atrocious goblins. The first episode of the anime is already enough for you to feel absolute disgust towards these green repulsive creatures. They kill, mutilate, torture and rape people, and that’s all on top of their abominable appearance.

You wouldn’t want to encounter such a creature, and even the thought that there are brave goblin slayers wouldn’t let you sleep well at night in a world like that.

8. Chainsaw Man

 - image 8

It feels like devils are not the only problem this world has, but it’s definitely a good enough reason to stay away. The line between devils and people is quite fine, since it seems like everyone is terrible in the series.

People make contracts with devils to gain power, devils can possess human bodies. You can get killed by anyone and anything, and no one will even remember you in this world. Quite a depressing place to be in.

9. Made in Abyss

 - image 9

Every anime fan knows by now how dark and sinister Made in Abyss is. And it’s mostly thanks to its world where numerous monsters exist. A monster capable of mimicking cries for help of prey they capture just to lure more victims in? Yes, they have that in the series. This is just one of the examples of hideous creatures that exist in this world.

Looking down into the Abyss for a couple of seconds just out of curiosity would be peculiar, but that’s it.

10. Devilman: Crybaby

 - image 10

One more devil-infested world on our list, and this time it is even more frightening. These devils are not trying to make contracts with humans, they are eager to reclaim the world from people and turn it into a world of violence and death.

There’s no place for weakness in Devilman: Crybaby because weak ones cannot survive there. Don’t know about you, but we wouldn’t like to take our chances being in this world.
