5 Anime With Strange Premises

Sometimes anime has strange premises, but it is still fun to watch. Here is a list of such anime.

Attack on Titan

In theory, Attack on Titan has a not too unusual premise. Humans have to protect themselves from some danger, so they build large walls and fight the enemy the best they can. This is all well and good until you realize that the danger is humans, just very big, naked and with silly smiles. There is a reason why there are clips of Titans running for people to laugh at. It is a funny premise, even though the anime is (mostly) not.

Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga

Reincarnation anime are not that rare; even Sailor Moon is technically about reincarnations of Sailor Warriors. As such, Japanese warlords reincarnating is not outside of the realm of what anime can do. But then, you notice that they are reincarnating into dogs, and things get a lot funnier. The anime is funny too, by the way. It is charming, and it has dogs, so it is pure perfection.

Bofuri

VRMMRPG (massively multiplayer role playing games in VR) are a good premise for an anime, and even a newbie putting all their points into one stat is somewhat believable. A newbie can fail badly because they do not want to get hurt, so they max out their defense. However, it is a little strange that this defense-maxing actually works for the main character of Bofuri, which is why the anime is not very believable. It is still sweet, though, and the main character is very smart, which is why she probably pulls the defense-maxing off.

Paranoia Agent

The general premise of a series of strange assaults is a normal theme for a mystery anime, but keep in mind that all the victims claim to have been assaulted by a teenager on roller skates with a bent basketball bat, and things become a little stranger. Even the police did not believe the first victim until the next one came in to report the exact same thing. The anime is strange in general, though, so a strange premise is fitting. Paranoia Agent is quite mind-bending.

Nichijou

Nichijou’s premise is that ridiculous things happen, which is why this anime makes it into this list. It is all about regular people living their lives right next to unbelievably strange events, like talking cats and tentacles on people’s heads. It is just that kind of anime, and it is great.
